The North American numbers are rolling in and at the top box office is David Fincher's latest film, Gone Girl. The R-rated film pulled in $13M on Friday. The 20th Century Fox film starring Ben Affleck ("Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice") is now estimated to make $35-$38 million this weekend, which is substantially higher than original mid-$20M forecasts.
Last year, The Conjuring scared up $318M at the worldwide box office. With a nice payday like that it didn't take Warner Bos. long to give a greenlight to a spinoff featuring the Annabelle doll, which had a major subplot in the 2013 horror-film. This weekend, Annabelle will finish in a close second to Gone Girl with a $32M weekend. Surprisingly, Annabelle had a better Friday than Gone Girl, with $15+ million. Both films received the same 'B' CinemaScore from audiences, despite Gone Girl getting an 86% "Fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes and Annabelle getting a 27% "Rotten" score.
Last weekend's box office champ, Denzel Washington's The Equalizer, will finish in third with a $19M weekend after pulling in $5+M on Friday. Left Behind, which was another new arrival this weekend will finish in sixth with a $7-$8 million three-day weekend. Audiences gave the Nic Cage ("Ghost Rider") film a 'B-' CinemaScore.
Guardians of the Galaxy is still clinging to the top ten with a ninth place finish. It is estimated that the Marvel film will add another $3M to its domestic total.

She terrified you in “The Conjuring,” but this is where it all began for Annabelle. Capable of unspeakable evil, the actual doll exists locked up in an occult museum in Connecticut—visited only by a priest who blesses her twice a month. New Line Cinema’s supernatural thriller “Annabelle” begins before the evil was unleashed. John Form has found the perfect gift for his expectant wife, Mia—a beautiful, rare vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress. But Mia’s delight with Annabelle doesn’t last long. On one horrific night, their home is invaded by members of a satanic cult, who violently attack the couple. Spilled blood and terror are not all they leave behind. The cultists have conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing they did will compare to the sinister conduit to the damned that is now...Annabelle.
