Directors: Joss Whedon

Directors: Joss Whedon

I feel that we don’t give some directors the attention they deserve here. Some who not only make some awesome CBM'S but also write some comics all for our enjoyment.

With the much anticipated 'Avengers' movie coming in 2012 i feel that we should explore why I, personally, think it will be amazing. Now don’t get me wrong the A list cast will have a major part of why it will be awesome but i think the director Joss Whedon will also help make it as amazing as a lot of us hope it will be.

In March 10 1997 Buffy The Vampire Slayer aired. For those of you who have been living in a cave or are too young to know what this is yet 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' follows Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) The latest in a line of young women known as "Vampire Slayers" In the story, Slayers are "called" to battle against vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. Unfortunately Buffy only had 7 seasons on television but is now continuing in Comic Books most of which are written by Joss Whedon. Season 8 in the comics has now finished and season 9 has, or at least, will be starting.

In October 5th 1999 the spin off from Buffy, titled 'Angel' aired. The show details the ongoing trials of Angel, a vampire whose human soul was restored to him by gypsies as a punishment for the murder of one of their own. After more than a century of murder and the torture of innocents, Angel's restored soul torments him with guilt and remorse. The shows main ideal was redemption. Unfortunately this was cancelled after 5 seasons on television but again Joss Whedon continued this in comic books which are still ongoing.

The next show from Joss Whedon was one that many people here personally love and are always saddened by the fact that it was cancelled. Firefly. In September 20 2002 'Firefly' aired. The series is set in the year 2517. It follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. Whedon pitched the show as "nine people looking into the blackness of space and seeing nine different things". The show explores the lives of some people who fought on the losing side of a civil war and others who now make a living on the outskirts of society, as part of the pioneer culture that exists on the fringes of their star system. After the show was cancelled fans were left with unanswered questions about some of the plots on the show. In 2005 most of our questions were answered and a sequel to the series 'Serenity' was released in cinemas. Firefly has also been continued in comics as prequels, to bridge the gap from when the show finished to when the movie starts.

The latest television series Joss Whedon Created was 'Dollhouse' The show revolves around a corporation running numerous underground establishments (known as "Dollhouses") across the globe which program individuals referred to as Actives (or Dolls) with temporary personalities and skills. Wealthy clients hire Actives from Dollhouses at great expense for various purposes. At the end of the first season they did a future episode to show what the dollhouse eventually does to the world. They only did this episode because they truly believed that they would not get another season. When they did get another season they had to work out a plot that would lead to the future episode.

Now were going to talk about a short web series that consisted of three acts and i think you all know what I’m talking about. 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog'
Now if you don’t know what this is then I don’t think you can call yourself a nerd. The movie was written by writer/director Joss Whedon, his brothers Zack Whedon, Jed Whedon, Jed's wife, actress Maurissa Tancharoen. The team wrote the musical during the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. The idea was to create something small and inexpensive, yet professionally done, in a way that would circumvent the issues that were being protested during the strike.

Joss Whedon has also written a 24 issue run for Astonishing X-men and writing short pieces for Marvel's Stan Lee Meets Spider-Man and Giant-Size X-Men #3 and doing much much more.

OPINION TIME!

Now after reading all of that it does sound impressive. I, myself, have watched all of these shows and read some of the comics and my personal opinion is that each one is great in their own way; I have loved everything Joss Whedon has done. Now when I think of 'The Avengers' I know that it will be awesome and that they have picked a perfect director to do this. Not only does Joss Whedon understand the world of TV and Movies but he also understands the world of Comics. The Avengers couldn’t be in more safer hands.

If you managed to read all of that then well done :) And as always thanks for google for my images

I don't think Joss Whedon has ever directed a big budget movie like the Avengers he just does TV shows and he made the movie Serenity (which I am not sure if he directed it). I think that Joss Whedon is one of the best writers though because Buffy and Angel are two of the best written shows ever. After the Avengers I think that Joss will become a big time director.

I have faith, and he did direct Serenity which turned out awesome and he apparently directed the post credit scene at the end of Thor, I think he will do great considering his knowledge in comics

As long as he doesn't 'Serenity' it up, then I think the Avengers will be great.

What do I mean by 'Serenity' it up? Make one character in a movie that is supposed to be an ensemble the star (Mary Sue) at the expense of the rest of the cast, and the film as a whole. I have also seen it called River syndrome.

If he avoids that, then yes, it will be great.

Personally, I think Whedon is an asshole. I've avoided everything he's had his name attached too for nearly 8 years now, and I have no intention of lifting the ban with his latest project, Marvel, DC, whatever.
