Since I joined this website I’ve seen some pretty interesting debates. Some with very convincing facts, some with..well, let’s just say that it’s apparent that some people have never opened up a Comic Book in their lives….With that being said..
All this nonsense of “Marvel will never make a movie with the care and quality that DC does”, or “I can’t believe DC just let’s Marvel walk all over them in the cinematic battle”. Come on..Some of you are missing the point.
I’m one of the biggest Batman fans of all time, I LOVE that character, my heart belongs to the DC Universe. With that being said, I’ve loved Spiderman for almost as long and I’ve read a ton of Marvel books which I own and like very much. So take that into consideration when you read the rest of this article.
I could list all the flops that DC and Marvel have had at the box office but that’s been done on here a thousand times. I could pull up sales figures for the top grossing Comic Book Movies but once again….that’s also been done a thousand times. So here is my message..
MARVEL fans: It’s not always about quantity, it’s about quality. You have had SOME quality films.
DC fans: You can’t always use the same argument over and over again. The Dark Knight is my favorite CBM of all time too but we DO need to pick up the pace.
I hope The Avengers is an amazing film and I think that Marvel had a great idea by doing their films that way, it’s smart and what Marvel has usually been about but that doesn’t mean DC needs to do the same with The Justice League. As cool as that would be (if done right), just focus on getting DC characters to the screen the CORRECT way and stop wasting all your money on garbage like Jonah Hex. I like Batman grounded in reality and I think that Christopher Nolan is a genius but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see him fight alongside The Green Lantern in a movie one day. I just think that DC and Marvel are different and if DC was planning a Justice League movie the same way that Marvel is doing The Avengers, we would definitely hear, “There goes DC copying Marvel again”, it’s a lose lose….That takes me to my main point..
WE ARE COMIC BOOK FANS.
We want to see Comic Book Movies made of our favorite heroes and villains. DC fans, be happy if Thor, Captain America and The Avengers does well (I really hope they do and I’ll be in line to see all three) because that makes writers and artists and filmmakers want to top them which opens doors to lesser known characters and properties while better known characters finally get the attention they deserve. Marvel fans, be happy if Green Lantern, The Dark Knight Rises and The Man of Steel do well, that will help with characters that FOX has messed up getting the chance to be “rebooted”, you don’t need another Elektra on your hands..
I come to this site daily and I get sick and tired of reading all the stupid bitching about why Thor will be better or why Green Lantern will be better….blah….Let the Comic Book companies battle over sales figures and just enjoy some of the amazing films we have gotten from BOTH companies….It’s an exciting time to be a Comic Book fan, let’s start supporting each other instead of acting like a bunch of know it all brats. VIVA COMIC BOOK FILMS (the good ones..)
