The host of
Attack of the Show's comics segment
'Fresh Ink' is making the move to writing with the four-issue Heart series.
The comic - which is illustrated by Kevin Mellon (Lovestruck) - tells the tale of professional fighter Oren 'Rooster' Redmond, stemming from Butler's fascination with mixed martial arts (MMA). Speaking to
CBR, Blair revealed the following:
"Oren is like a lot of us. He's toiling away at a temp job, doing menial office work and looking for his calling," Butler told Comic Book Resources.
"His calling just happens to be punching dudes in the face. His brother, Jimmy, is already an established fighter in the fictional Kansas City fight scene and Oren follows him into the sport.
"But while his brother boasts a wrestling base, Oren is a brawler, a guy who knows he can take heads. And that's why he rises so quickly in the sport. Maybe too quickly."
"In MMA, the term 'heart' gets thrown around constantly. When fighters describe someone as having 'heart', it usually refers to that fighter's drive to win, despite adversity.
"But, just as often, it's a euphemism for a fighter who takes a ton of abuse - sometimes because his skill-set isn't as solid as it should be - and still won't quit. Even when, perhaps, he should."

Blair Butler (born June 28, 1978, in Fairway, Kansas) is an American stand-up comic, and a television host, known for her work on the "Fresh Ink" segment on the G4 program, Attack of the Show!. Although she identifies herself as a writer/producer, her work as a stand-up comedian, including being featured on Comedy Central's Premium Blend, opened the way for her to work on-camera. Blair appeared on the cover of Booster Gold #23 from DC comics. She was later given her own segment called Fresh Ink on Attack of the Show! where she critiqued comic books, reviewing the newest issues of comic books with her recommendation on whether to "buy", "browse", or "burn" them.
