As someone who has never been into x-men it does remind me of the only thing I think is interesting about the theme of the stories. In that for the mutants who can hide their powers their struggle is effectively that of the gay pride idea.

and for the mutants who cant hide their powers and are forced to show them it is a mirror of the civil rights moment.

In the end you CAN hide that you are gay even though you dont want to have to hide it, but you cant hide the colour of your skin.

and it must highlight an interesting conflict between the different types of mutants and it is what has always interested me about magneto as he is one of the mutants who COULD decide not to show his powers if you wanted to, but i guess his arguement is "f*ck anyone who doesnt like me the way i am".
