Since the Kickstarter campaign for the financing of a demo reel for the David Fincher movie adaptation of Eric Powell's comic book exceeded its goal last November the principal source of information released has been through the
movie blog site accessible to all sponsors. Regular monthly updates have included glimpses of model sheets and other visuals in development for the project along with status updates on the progress of the demo reel over at Blur Studios. More recently, a segment of the reel featuring the 'animatic' version of a scene from the movie was posted at the end of July. Titled 'Meeting of the Mobs' it runs approximately two minutes in length and is listed as the sixteenth segment, presumably in the complete demo reel.
Reference made by another participant may also have been made in the following Twitter post made by Southern California post-production studio named
Post Haste Studios:
Given the time frame it would seem that they are responsible for the very nice sound work on this project and that at least this aspect of the complete demo reel has already been finished. Although I have yet to hear of any description of the completed project one can already conclude from what is currently available at least that there is just No Way that this will be getting any PG-13 rating. Although the violence might be considered 'over the top' it is also presented with enough of a sense of realism that there is a gripping sense of genuine combat brutality as Franky and the Goon deal with the Nameless One's minions in their own genteel manner. Other than that I will also say that fans of the comic series will not be disappointed by this as it is very faithful to is work having been scripted by Eric Powell to begin with.
So if you haven't seen the segment yet just head over to the Goon movie blog page and login.
