Del Toro recently discussed the project and the unique world he is creating, saying, “We are working with actors that I absolutely adore. Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman. It’s really, it’s a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Giant monsters versus giant robots. Twenty-five-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters. We’re trying to create a world in which the characters are real and how it would affect our world politically, how it would affect the landscape if creatures like this really came out of the sea, etc.”

A huge production like Pacific Rim needs a large space to work with, which is why the movie is currently using 5 out 7 soundstages at the massive Pinewood Toronto Studios. Del Toro has chosen not to use a second unit on the movie which means the director is constantly shuttling between soundstages at Pinewood,Hence the release date being pushed further .

According to the Toronto Film Office the movie, which is using the working title Still Seas, will continue filming at Pinewood through April 10, 2012.

Along with Pacific Rim, Resident Evil: Retribution is also filming in Toronto through Dec. 23,Pacific Rim hits theaters on May 10, 2013.
