There has definitely been no shortage of rumors this past year surrounding the Farrelly Brothers planned film 'The Three Stooges', casting rumors have claimed that Knoxville, Andy Samberg, Benecio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Jim Carrey have all at one point been rumored to star as various characters in the upcoming adaption.
Now it's looking Johnny Knoxville might actually be close to signing on to the film to star as Moe Howard. Bob Farrelly was recently quoted as saying "Knoxville is a real-life stooge. He’s a real-life Moe.“
Reportedly, official plans are not underway but word is that the brothers are very eager to cast Knoxville in the role and he is said to be interested in the role as well.
Here's what the brothers had to say when asked about the direction they'll be taking with the movie:
This isn’t a Farrelly version of The Three Stooges. This is The Three Stooges. And, it’s not a biopic, by the way. We’ve written three new episodes. The movie is actually three episodes that go back to back to back. Each one picks up where the other one left off. We want you to look at it and say, ‘It’s Moe, Larry and Curly!,’ so we have very high standards on this route.”
The Farrelly Brothers are hoping to start filming 'The Three Stooges' sometime this spring or summer.
