Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Star In And Produce Live-Action FRAGGLE ROCK Movie

Catching up on some news from yesterday that seemed to come out of nowhere, it's been announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises) will work with New Regency and The Henson Co. to bring the classic TV series to the big screen. More past the jump...

Gobo, Red, Travelling Matt, Barkley, The Trash Heap -- You remember Fraggle Rock right? Well, just in case you weren't an '80s kid, it was a musical puppet series which followed the adventures of a bunch of cave-dwelling creatures called Fraggles and their little construction worker pals the Doozers. It really was a great show, and still has a pretty big fanbase that happens to include Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

According to Variety, the Sin City: A Dame To Kill For actor is set to produce a live-action adaptation of the series, and star in it too. Here's what he had to say in a statement: “The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on ‘Sesame Street,’ and then on ‘Fraggle Rock.’ Jim Henson’s characters make you laugh and sing, but they’re also layered, surprising, and wise. From Oscar the Grouch, to Yoda, to the Fraggles. I’ve never stopped loving his work, even as a young frisky man, and on into adulthood. Collaborating with Lisa Henson makes me confident we can do something that Jim would have loved. I’m grateful and excited to be working with New Regency on this project.”

Levitt has quite a bit on his plate at the moment, including the big-screen Sandman movie he's been working on with David Goyer, which he is also rumored to be directing and possibly even starring in too. We haven't had any updates on that in a while, so it's possible these Fraggles may have put it on the back-burner. What do you think of this news? Dance your cares away and sound off in the usual place.

I'm not sure how I remember this show so well. I can always recall the song every time someone mentions it. Weird. Maybe...I'm a fraggle? Or a doozer? What am I?

After Don Jon and Hit RECord on TV, I'm down for ANYTHING that JGL puts out. Dude is a great actor, damn fine writer, and gifted director. Bring it.

I loved Fraggle Rock but a live-action big screen adaptation just seems... weird.
