For some time now, director Kevin Smith (
Clerks, Dogma) has hinted via his podcasts that his upcoming hockey film
Hit Somebody would likely be his last film. While in Sundance promoting his latest film,
Red State, Smith talked with Cinema Blend, where he confirmed that this was indeed the case.
...Smith has confirmed that he will retire as a director following the filming of his next project. According to our source on the inside, the wonderful Katey Rich, he will instead focus on helping other people make movies. Whether this means that he will be serving as a producer or continuing to write is unknown, but we will update this story as we know more.
Smith, who has had a rather controversial career, both in front of and behind the camera, is also one of the most talented that Hollywood has to offer. He has not only written films, but has also had a successful career writing for DC Comics with the Batman character among many others. I hope that Smith will continue to at least do some writing as he has created some fantasic films and characters and it would be a shame to see him not continue with at least that.
