New AMC Series: Comic Book Men - A review

Something new for fans of comics and or Kevin Smith, or more of an old and increasingly tired formula?

Here's the long and short of it; mix Pawn Stars with Meteor Men and a live pod cast and you have Comic Book Men.

Centered around Kevin Smith's comic book shop in NJ, this first episode featured 4 employees, rather 3 employees, and one guy that just hangs out at the shop. The "narration" elements of this series are done via a live pod cast, where questions are asked of the crew and they talk about the clients that come in. There doesn't seem to be any "selling" going on, instead the formula is more like Pawn Stars, or Oddities, or anyother show where a store buys "stuff" at ridiculous low ball prices.

This show seems like it's fun to make and the guys may really like each other, as well as working at the comic shop. However, the guy that just hangs out at the shop is a bit creepy. There is certainly something off about him, but then again he is the most entertaining part of the show. The Manager of the store is annoying and his facial ticks when negotiating sell prices are off putting.

Bottom line...this wasn't a very interesting show. It was the same crap that's on any other channel. Plus they aren't very good at it. I was hoping that we would get some insight into the comic shop industry, and some cool, or funny stories that happen in the stores...plus maybe see some cool art, comics, toys, etc. Instead we get crap, from what seems to clearly be set up "customers" who are a bit eccentric.

I wanted new, cool, comics stuff, instead we get Pawn Stars bastard child.
OLD, TIRED, LAME.

I thought it was pretty funny. That would be like the coolest job ever. I think I might start watching this show along with Auction Hunters.

It seems I'm the only person in the world who loved this show.

Comics are awesome, everyone who goes on this site loves comics (I would hope)

Kevin Smith is funny shit, nuff said.

Why is everyone hating on this show?

Because it's lame...I recall only a few things actually about comics.
"who's your favorite Comic chick"?

The customers were set ups and there was nothing about the Comic business or really anything interesting at all "Comic Book" related.

At least I know how to get a bunch of stuff for REAL cheap.

Looking at it objectively...was this a good show? It was watchable...but not because it was "comic related" only because it uses a solid formula that we are used to in about 10 other shows that are currently on TV.

I though it was decent enough. I do wish they switched up the formula and made it a bit more original or interesting, but I chuckled quite a bit and their comic conversations were somewhat entertaining. I'll keep watching for now.
