Acclaimed French filmmaker Abdellatif Kechiche’s latest, based on Julie Maroh’s graphic novel, was the sensation of this year’s Cannes Film Festival even before it was awarded the Palme d’Or. Adèle Exarchopoulos is a young woman whose longings and ecstasies and losses are charted across a span of several years. Léa Seydoux (Midnight in Paris) is the older woman who excites her desire and becomes the love of her life. Kechiche’s movie is, like the films of John Cassavetes, an epic of emotional transformation that pulses with gestures, embraces, furtive exchanges, and arias of joy and devastation. It is a profoundly moving hymn to both love and life.

This is the first film adapted from either a graphic novel or a comic to win the Palme d'Or. Blue Is The Warmest Color stars Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux, and opens October 9th in France.

I haven't read a single bad review so looking forward to it. Plus the fact that it's the very first CBM to win the Palme d'Or is pretty cool..even if there's no superheroes in it!

Out of all the places I expected to see coverage for this film, this was probably the last one.

I read about this winning in Cannes, but I didn't realize it was a CBM at the time. I think it's a good thing that this site covers graphic novel adaptations outside of the superhero CBM mainstream - kudos! :)

nailbiter

It wasn't meant as criticism, although you can certainly take it as such (it's not like a graphic novel-based movie has EVER been missed by this site...).

It was just an honest statement: I knew about this movie and was really surprised when I saw its trailer here the other day. As simple as that. Gotta grow that thicker skin, buddy :)

This is apparently a masterpiece of a film AND has extremely long hard core lesbian sex scenes between two ridiculously hot woman.

This is basically Christmas. :D

I don't get the appeal of a GN based on lesbians and then a movie showing said lesbians doing it all the time, just don't get it....said no one ever!

Always intrigued to watch the Palme d'Or winners. Amour was pretty good last year.

I think it's crazy that you have people in charge of a website insulting the people that visit their site. For comic book fans you guys have little tact and humility.
Also, I'm an avid comic book reader and I've never heard of this. It looks like broke back mountain for geeks.

There is a lot of comic books in the world, superheroes are not the only thing that you can do in a paper, is a good thing that CBM talk about this.

At the same time this make me think about all the independent projects that never received the deserved credit, CBM talk about this because is a Cannes winner movie, but I am sure there's a lot of interesting movies that no receive prizes, have devoted much publicity about IronMan 3 in a lot of websites, tv and magazines, but I hated that movie, speak about a good and different comic book movie is interesting.

Many people say they hated Akira or TinTin just because they are not americans, stop hating, the european comics are great, just open your mind. How nerdy can you be to just read about the same characters all your life?
