Ricky Gervais Expresses His Excitement To Star In THE MUPPETS Sequel

"I look at The Muppets like they're real," British comedian and actor Ricky Gervais told the presenters of UK chat show 'This Morning' earlier today. "They are real! I'm in the next Muppets movie! It's great in that I know the director, he's fantastic and did the first one, but there's always room for collaboration. People listen to your ideas, I listen to people's ideas. When I'm in charge, we finish at three or four. The Muppet movie might go on until six! It's going to be hell [Laughs]." As for how he feels about the beloved Disney characters, the star of The Office and Extras had this to say. "I'm in awe of The Muppet's. I've loved them for like 35 years. I actually can't wait; I'm really excited. I was there yesterday on set and honestly, I'm like an eight year old at Christmas. I love it!" The actor can next be seen on Channel 4 in Derek alongside Karl Pilkington (who will be featured in Science Channel's An Idiot Abroad this Saturday).

I think this'll be brilliant. He clearly appreciates them and doesn't want to take the piss out of them, which is great...also if you've ever never seen his failed interview with Elmo, you need to GET ON THAT. Feckin hilarious.

Wish they had picked someone nicer. He might be funny, but he's kind of a dick. Jason Segel brought a real sense of heart and dignity to his role.

Segel has picked roles where hes smoking pot and cursing all over the place.

While Gervais might be a dick in real life, he clearly loves the Muppets here and I think he'll do great.

Christoph Waltz would've been mind blowing though.

It really doesn't matter how funny Ricky is, because any humans appearing in a Muppet Movie are just "straight men" for the Muppets. They may have a few funny lines, but the focus is on the Muppets. The actors just have to interact with the Muppets as though they are real people.

Ricky Jervais in the Muppets doesn't seem like a good idea, I don't think they'll mix.

Love him or hate him; he is just a lovable atheist. Atleast that's just my bias opinion.

Ricky is brilliant. I saw him perform standup once, and it was hysterical. The original Office was way better than the American one, and his first stint at the Golden Globes was the best awards show hands down. I guess some we're upset that he ragged on their idol Robert Downey! Anyways, the last Muppets movie was great for kids and adults, and I am sure the next one will be as well.

Remember.. Everyone has the right to believe in anything they want. And everyone else has the right to find it [frick]ing ridiculous. Peace.
