Actor James Garner star of many films and TV shows such as Maverick and the Rockford Files has died at the age of 86. Yahoo reports:

"Actor James Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western Maverick led to a stellar career in TV and films such as The Rockford Files and his Oscar nominated Murphy's Romance has died, police said. He was 86. 

He was found dead of natual causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Saturday.

Police responded to a call arond 8 p.m. PDT confirmed Garner's identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press.

There was no immediate word on a more specific cause of death. Garner had suffered a stroke in May 2008, just weeks before his 80th birthday."

Garner was also known for his role in 8 Simple Rules playing the father of Katey Segal's character Cate a role he took on and joining the show along with actor David Spade following the death of main series actor John Ritter. He also starred in the animated Disney film Atlantis The Lost Empire as the villain Commander Rourke. His final role was in 2010 as the voice of the wizard Shazam in the animated DC direct to video film Superman/Shazam!: The Return Of Captain Marvel.

A legend who shall truly be missed. RIP.
