SITE UPDATE: User Votes Now Determine Homepage Placement!

Attention Contributors! Are you aware how our "Like" (or Thumbs up) feature has changed with the new site revamp? With enough user votes, now you too can make the main! Homepage placement has been automated!

That's right. If you've been frustrated that your articles haven't seen the light of day under the tabs, we've just made it easier for you to get the exposure you want by automating the process. Now all you need to do is get enough user "Thumbs ups" or "Likes" (see bottom of article). If enough users agree that your article deserves to be moved to the homepage, and they click on the red thumbs up glove at the bottom of the article, it will by-pass CBM editors and appear on the main.

We've done this because, frankly, our editors aren't perfect and do miss stuff from time to time, and we don't want anything worthy of the main to be passed over.

If you want to take advantage of this new change in our submissions policy, just be sure that you follow these steps:

1. Write well. It goes without saying that users who can't spell or punctuate probably won't ever make the main--unless a merciful editor fixes your article. More likely, poorly written contributions will get deleted.

2. Write about something that will interest our readers. Nobody wants to know about what you did last summer. Keep to our theme and produce something in any of the following article types: Breaking news, features, editorials, reviews, interviews. (Sorry, not much fan fic will make the main) Any of these article types can make the homepage if done well.

3. Keep to the theme. Comic Book Movies are what this site is about, so if you write about the latest Twilight gossip, it will probably not make the homepage no matter how well it is written--unless it's breaking news about Taylor Lautner getting run over by a truck full of comic books.
(Note: we WILL be accepting non-comic book movie news for our new sites within the next couple months. Stay tuned!)

4. Read our style guide for the rest. If you follow that, you stand a good chance of front page exposure.

If you need any convincing as to WHY you should be a contributor to CBM, read THIS.

So what are you waiting for?

Can we vote on what ads we're shown? I was literally being called a b**** by an ad that I could not find. I searched and searched so I could pause it or mute it or something, but the article I was viewing contained video so I didn't want to just turn off all sounds. I finally had to reload the page and hope for a different advertisement to take its place.

Whats changed? even if a user produced article receives a large amount of likes an editor will still delete it if he deems it unworthy. (more like if he doesnt like the author)

Anyways.... Dig the site update.

I will just stay skeptical that this will change anything. I think last year saw an abundance of user produced "Unfarity" articles. Maybe due to a large number of new recruits, but last year was not the first year to see those articles either.

This may be an atempt to curb some of those feelings members have. Hope it works, but according to what I saw and experienced last year Your editors and Jr editors are JUDGE, JURRY, and EXOCUTIONER.

I think it would be fun to see the like/dislike feature applied to all articles (editors included) so all members have no excuse oe curtain to hide behind...

Anway, I digress...

@ComicBookMovie- Sweet! I can't wait, my theory for the club updates one is that we can join clubs based on what different superheroes we like, or what rank of user we are? For example, Newbie, Veteran, Editor etc. So are the Editors now NOT permitted to move articles to main?

Well tirade all you want but this still in effect and will be a matter of opinion to somebody:

1. Write well. It goes without saying that users who can't spell or punctuate probably won't ever make the main--unless a merciful editor fixes your article.

***More likely, poorly written contributions will get deleted.***

I am not trying to prod you into a debate or troll the site owner. Acoording to the guidlines above, even with the like feature an editor or whoever will get their opinion in the matter.

This is a cool functionality. Hope the Nolanites don't sink every avengers article, though.

Galactus Insert: They can't. We're not getting rid of our editors, so whatever they deem front page material will get moved over no matter how many votes.
EpicMan
EpicMan - 1/3/2012, 9:50 AM
I guess there will be an amount of time alotted to an article to get the magic number of likes before it is deleted?

Galactus Insert: If your articles are being deleted, then obviously you are doing something wrong and not "worthy of the main". You should take the time to figure it out and fix it rather than immediately blame others for your failure.
Greengo
Greengo - 1/3/2012, 9:51 AM
@Aklash: I think there would need to be a thumbs down for that to happen.

Just how many 'Likes' is enough to bring up an article to the Main, and will it include stuffs outside of News as well (e.g. Editorials, Fan Fic, etc.)? :)
Fogs
Fogs - 1/3/2012, 10:08 AM
@Greengo - Yeah, but that's what people (haters) do. Thumbs-down-rush. But Galactus noted that the editors have the power to promote the articles to main, though.

I have to admit that I wasn't a fan of the initial new layout. BUT it's really grown on me and is a lot easier to navigate. It actually gives the site a more 'mature' an credible look (no offence meant by that). It's great to see that if you put hard work into an article it gets recognition. It will show on main which articles are the most active also.

It's a win for those of us who bitched about not getting a fair crack at 'main' in the past.

WIN

@CBM Loud minority vs. silent majority. The majority understand that they are given a lot of freedom on this site -- the ability to say what's on their mind, to post what they want, and to interact how they want (without being abusive of course). You're going to have people here and there who will complain, but that does not represent the community as a whole. You could literally have a utopia where all needs and desires are met for people, and there would STILL be some who would say... "Is there not more that I can be given?"
MovieMaster
MovieMaster - 1/3/2012, 10:20 AM
So it takes 14 likes to move it to main? I'm out! Jokes, but this new layout seems to have made VAST improvements on the old ones. I dunno why, but you and Nate seem to be some of the only people on the planet who, whenever they make changes to something people love, the changes are always better!

One thing I don't like: Not being able to see the author's name before you click on the article. No biggie, and there's probably a reason behind it. Other than that, love this new layout!

@ComicBookMovie- I reckoned that was the reason xD and I noticed that too :D Hopefully the new Facebook-ish features will make us more of a community, and stop the constant arguing. Although, one can only hope.
