The Expanding Fleischerverse: Shatman & Spocky

The Expanding Fleischerverse: Shatman & Spocky

While issue #2 of the Fleischer comic book is currently being drawn by Fernando Sosa (and the script for issue number three is nearly complete), Fleischer co-creators Ed Gross and Leon McKenzie are working on a number of shorter comics taking place in the "Fleischerverse." First out of the gate will be a four-page Shatman & Spocky story.

GEEKtira0002remake
Written by Gross/McKenzie with art by Matias Festa, Shatman & Spocky is actually inspired by an installment of Gross' "Media Geek" strip (for samples of the strip, just click HERE), which came from an off-the-cuff thought: what if William Shatner decided to become a superhero in the vein of a parody of Batman, and instead of Robin by his side was the waist-high Spocky. What the new comic has that the original didn't was a growing antagonism between the two characters which should (hopefully) provide a number of laughs. The team of Shatman and Spocky will also be appearing in issues two and three of Fleischer. Expect the first strip within the next week or so.

Below is a sample image done by Matias Festa. In the final comic, Spocky will be waist-high and Green Latrine won't be making an appearance (although he will have his own spin-off).

Thanks, Teabag. It's a bizarre concept, but then so was Fleischer. All I can say is that we're having a great time expanding this little "universe".

I didn't figure you did at all, Ed, It basically said what I said here. I'm not really accusing anyone at all, maybe I erased myself somehow! Someone WAS erasing people's comments here and there before but I thought they solved that problem.

BTW, I'm waiting on pins & needles for Fleisher stuff, especially the t-shirt!

I have to say that both Leon and I were very excited when we saw Matias' drawing of the characters. It should be a fun addition to the "Fleischerverse."

Jallanr, of course drawings look better in original pencils because you have the ability to do more shading but comic book companies are not going to use a pencil medium because it is too perishable. Ink is more permanent and has better clarity but limited to cross-hatching for shading. That's why painted comics look better than printed ink, better shading ability.
