TOP 10 ACTORS THAT SHOULD BE GIVEN THE CHANCE OR ANOTHER CHANCE TO DO A COMICBOOK MOVIE
10. PAUL DANO
2)The Trickster
1) Sand Man Wesley Dodds
Why?
I got a lot of harsh criticism for my line up of Justice League on this website. People thought I was being too conventional. SO I thought long and hard who I´d add to the line of John Stewart, Wally West, Batman, MMH, Superman and Wonder Woman. Who could add something to that fine roster. I finally came down on the side of The Sandman. Though he´s never been in Justice League, he was in Justice society and in some very important comics JL graphic novels since, playing a pivotal role in Kingdom Come. I would make him a side character mystic, not part of the group, who foresee a great event, Armageddon, caused by The JL themselves. I think it could be really cool. Paul Dano, has a real talent for playing the weird and wonderful, the characters above, particularly Sandman, I think would be a great fit for him. (Also there could be a solo sandman film that ties into JL, at the end of a trilogy)
9. ALEX O´LOUGHLIN
2) Purpleman (Daredevil reboot)
1) Batman
Why?
This guy came up in someones fancast for a new Batman, and he was an actor I liked for ages but had never thought of in the role. I think there´s a good chance he could be excellent. See below for why.
He looks young enough to be good next to Cavil, and he would be a very different take from Bale. He´d be pretty much a fresh face to most of the world, and he really can act. As you can see.
8. PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN
2) The Penguin
1)The ventriloquist
Why?
First of all he´s Philip Seymour Hoffman. That should be enough. When I heard the rumor he might play The Penguin, I prayed for days it was true, I dreamt one night that it was confirmed and woke with a smile. How bloody awesome would that have been. It´s beyond words. Bale verse a Nolan rendered Penguin, alas it was not true; and we got a so-so Bane. Great film, but Bane just was NOT the villain for me to follow The Joker. Come on you needed an icon to follow that performance. In any case, I think with a reboot of Batman he could fit The Penguin, but so we can really flex his acting muscles, how about we get him to play two characters. We know from Capote, he can completely transform, and I think ventriloquist is one of Batmans most underrated characters. He´s probably the only one who can truly claim hands down he needs to be in Arkum Asylum. I think it could be a majestic fit.
7. EDDIE REDMAYNE
Who: Top Picks
Who: Top Picks
1)The Flash
Why?
He´s a wonderful young actor with great range. I really like the idea of our Superheroes played by actors at the top of there game. He´s not the first you´d think of but I like that. It means he´d have to work hard and research to play the Flash, he´s also young enough, so we can have a really young take on Flash in the Justice League.
6. JOSH STEWART
Who: Top picks
Gambit
Why?
I first saw this guy on Criminal Minds, and thought what, its bloody Gambit. Watch the video below and see why. This guy was made to play Gambit. Really he´d be so much better than whoever that guy was that played him last. All he needs is the script.
5. JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN
Who: Top Picks
3) Cable
2)Apocolypse
1) Wolverine
Why
To be honest I think Jackman has had his time, and the mantle of Wolverine should be passed on. I hope soon they reboot X-Men with the modern cast. Gambit, Rogue, Shadow Cat, Cyclops, Psylocke, Beast, Wolverine, Colossus and then connect it to the first class universe through time travel. This time make the atmosphere a real SciFi mind bender. Apocolypse, Sentinals, epic 3d mutant battles, time travel, The death of Xavier, the real Pheonix. After seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Comedian, I´m sure he could do a really fresh take on the wild man wolverine. Closer to the comics, stocky, short and cocky. He´s a wonderful actor, and we need to see more of him after seeing what he achieved as The Comedian in The Watchmen.
4. ADEWALE AKINNOYE-AGBAJE
Who: Top Picks
2)Martian Manhunter
1)Black Panther
Why?
This is another long shot for a film. Very unlikely Manhunter would ever be made, and if it is, probably will be piss poor, cause no one takes our poor Manhunter seriously. However if it were made I think Adewale would be perfect to play him. He´s recently been signed to play a villain in Thor after Marvel dropped the Black Panther film which I would also love to see him in. I watched this guy since Oz, and he was the best thing about that show, it seemed to me he had movie potential in spades, just being untapped. He was funny, charming, could be evil, mysterious, mystical and wise. The guy even seems already like a bit an alien in the way he manically portrays his characters. He knocked it out the park again in Lost. Very compelling performance. It would be nice after Marvel messed him around with Black Panther, that he got to play a complex layered Manhunter in Justice League or a solo movie.
3. MADS MIKKELSON
Who: Top Picks
1)Ares God Of War (only one. If that movie is ever made, though I doubt it now, he´s got to be Ares)
Why?
This guy is a serious talent, and I think when he demonstrates to the world Mr. Hopkins isn´t the only one who can suave up a deadly serial killer, people will take notice. This guy needs to play a villain and a brilliant one. I´ll be honest, I love Wonder Woman, but almost 3 quarters of why I want them to do a WW in a very dark gritty solo film, is to see Ares baby! This guys the God Of War, his title speaks for itself. He is as evil as they come and the perfect foil to Wonder Woman, and when it comes to looking like a militant nut case, one who could chill you with a single cold utterance or blink of a wrinkled eye, no one does it like Mads. He was born to play iconic villains. GREAT actor.
2. EDWARD NORTON
Who: Top Picks
3)Braniac
2)Ares
1) The Riddler
Why?
Edward Norton, whatever anyone wants to say was really poorly treated by Marvel. I really like the Avengers and what Ruffolo did, but seeing the cut scenes from Hulk, I think Norton could have played Whedon´s Banner just as well if not better and his Banner was really good, had they not removed so much of the movie. As it stands, Norton really respected what Nolan did and was constantly referencing him in interviews. He obviously in his acting style is suited more to a villain and more to the work ethic of a Nolanesque or more Director rather than studio governed movie. He is clearly one of the most talented actors out there, and I think if they were to reboot Batman with a new Riddler, he´d be the man. Intellectual, dark, intense and psycho, are the best he has on his resume. And man, when he gets it right, he gets it sooooo right. He´s simply mesmerizing to watch when he´s on form. If we want a new Riddler, to wipe away the memory of Jim Carey, I say no Leo, go with Ed. Come on Norton stop sulking, and reclaim your rightful title as best actor of your generation. So you can finally shut up all the naysayers.
1. JOAQUIN PHEONIX
Who Top Picks
2)The Joker: although I think he´s too much in his comfort zone
1)Lex Luthor: Not the usual pick for Lex Luthor and not who we think of, but that might just be what old Lex needs.
WHY?
A Few months ago I wrote an article in which I suggested Joaquin Pheonix was one of the best actors of his generation and if there was an actor who could give us a really new and nuanced take on Lex Luthor it was Joaquin. He is no doubt one of the finest actors of his generation, who acts in a way that can´t be taught, it must be genetic, cause not only is he a great actor like River his older brother, but he also has this emotional connection to his characters, that make them come alive, way beyond the levels of what is written on the page. His is a school of acting that can´t be taught. I should think after people have heard about the rave reviews for The Master, in which he´s apparently out acted no less than Philip Seymour Hoffman, people might start listening to what I have to say. Wonderful actor who could make our generations more emotionally complicated and volatile Lex Luthor. Genius, who thought his mind would be responsible for changing the world, but whose birthright and fate was robbed of him by Superman.
