ToughGrappler Reviews Justice League #2

I explain why this is probably one of the worst books I've read thus far from the new 52.

Now let me start off by saying that I like Geoff Johns as a writer but lately his work has been extremely lack luster to just plain bad. In the first issue of Justice League I had problems with how he went about introducing just a few of the characters while the cover had every character on it, I know it’s an origin story but the pacing was just really off.

So issue two comes out and honestly the only positive things I have to say is the artwork is great, Jim Lee brings his A game as usual but sadly his art is wasted on a writer who currently has too much on his plate. First the dialog in this comic is just terrible, these people read like 5 year olds’s fighting over who has the best action figures. Superman feels more like a bully just abusing his powers pushing his weight around, Hal Jordan Green Lantern has the dialog of stereotypical jock and Flash is just there as plot device to stop superman, the only reasonable person thus far is Batman.

Look I understand this an origin story, but Johns has no idea how to balance these characters out and by the time this issue hits it’s third act something interesting starts to happen and the book ends . Looks like we will be getting another member or members introduced next issue, which I pray are written well and not rushed and poorly written like this issue was. This book is $3.99 and it’s not worth the cover price.

It took me only a few minutes to fly through this book, I’m sorry but if a book is $4.00 I need more information to take in, one thing that does impress me is how little of blood and guts I saw in this issue, so that’s a plus for Johns not relying on gore to sell this title for shock value. This is suppose to be DC new 52 flag shit title and it is doing a bad job so far in opinion. I think the problem is simple, Geoff Johns DC golden boy has lost his touch, and he’s on 4 titles including the upcoming Captain Marvel title he will be collaborating with Gary Frank on, the guy has too much on his plate if you ask me.

I get that in world of mainstream comics that the more titles you are on the more you get paid but I feel the quality of a writer drops by putting them on so many titles at once. Anyway that is my review on this issue I will give it a 5 out of 10 and mainly for the artwork.
