Matt Wagner says his Grendel character could be a movie project soon.

"We're just in the process of finalizing a deal with Warner Bros. for that," Wagner told IGN Filmforce.

For the uninitiated, here's background on the character: "First appearing in Comico Primer #2 in 1982, Grendel has had many iterations. The original Grendel was Hunter Rose, a novel writer who moonlighted as a criminal mastermind. Over the years the mask of Grendel was handed down to Hunter's daughter. Later Grendel evolved with a much broader scope and a focus on aggression. It's unclear which 'era' of Grendel the movie will focus on," IGN says.

Meanwhile, options for the Mage film have reverted to Wagner and a movie isn't out of the question. "Grendel kind of cropped up in the interim -- the interest in Grendel for a film -- and my thoughts were, 'okay, let's let that roll through and then we'll have more bargaining power when it's time to cut a Mage deal,'" Wagner says.

Oh please oh please let it be rated "R".

A Grendel movie that is NOT rated R just couldn't have the level of violence and sex required to be a GOOD Grendel movie (NC-17 would be more appropriate...)
