DC:
PICK OF THE WEEK
Green Lantern #3
Written by: Geoff Johns
Drawn by: Doug Mahnke
-Green Lantern was extremely good this week. This is Geoff Johns at his best. Geoff focuses on developing the characterization of Sinestro and Hal while showing off some sweet Green Lantern Battles. Geoff’s Sinestro story is developing nicely. Doug Mahnke delivers some detailed pencils during the fight scenes that are typically enhanced by the coloring. My only complaint is Hal has become rather annoying. 4.5/5
MINOR:
Batman and Robin #3
Written by: Peter J. Tomasi
Drawn by: Patrick Gleason
-Another good DC book to have in your possession, The Bruce-Damian dynamic is cool and the story actually progresses. The fight scenes are drawn very well in this one. 4/5
Batwoman #3
Written by: J.H. Williams III and Haden Blackman
Drawn by: J.H. Williams III
-A simply excellent book buy it now you won’t regret it #DOLPHINSWAG. 4/5
Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #3
Written by: Jeff Lemire
Drawn by: Alberto Ponticelli
-If you aren’t on Lemire’s metaphorical writing dick by now, get on it; this man’s template is the future. Cue a nice horror-mercenary story together with a family dynamic and sketchy artwork and you get one hell of a book. 4.5/5
Resurrection Man #3
Written by: Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning
Drawn by: Fernando Dagnino
-Mitch Shelley gets a little more back-story but much of the issue is focused on straight action. The artwork, especially the shading, is very commendable. 3.5/5
Superboy #3
Written by: Scott Lobdell
Drawn by: R.B. Silva
-Lobdell finally gives us a somewhat fun Superboy issue even if some of the material is out of line for this book and its rating. Still, it’s a solid superhero story with decent artwork. 3/5
MARVEL:
PICK OF THE WEEK:
Ultimate Spider-man #4
Written by: Brian Michael Bendis
Drawn by: Sara Pichelli
-Bendis continues to impress me with his Spiderman (much better than his Moon Knight) by delivering us solid characterization and impressive wit. Morales is really growing into a deeper character and hints at his future sexuality are shown in a scene in the book. I like that Morales is really being developed as a person as much as his Spider-Man will be. The artwork is fairly simplistic but it gets the job done. 4.5/5
MINOR:
Avenging Spider-man #1
Written by: Zeb Wells
Drawn by: Joe Madureira
-Cool another Spider-Man for me to start off fresh with that I can get into. Zeb is decent on the writing spectrum and Joe has great art but nothing happens in this issue. 3/5
The Incredible Hulk #2
Written by: Jason Aaron
Drawn by: Marc Silvestri
-Another well done issue of Hulk with incredible Marc Silvestri art. Jason Aaron gives us hints at the clash between Banner and Hulk and how interesting things will get. 4/5
DARK HORSE:
Orchid #2
Written by: Tom Morello
Drawn by: Scott Hepburn
-Another pretty good issue of Orchid expanding on the story whilst delivering background info, good art and free music. 4/5
IMAGE:
Pigs #3
Written by: Nate Cosby and Ben McCool
Drawn by: Breno Temura
-Pigs is setting up to be an intriguing spy story with a bunch of cool little twists. I can’t wait to see what goes down next. The art wasn’t as good this time around. 3.5/5
