Warner Bros. seem determined to get their big-screen adaptation of The Stand into production despite quite a troubled start. Scott Cooper was the latest director to leave the project, and now Badass Digest reckon Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy/ United 93) is at the "top of their wishlist" to take the reigns. The site don't know if there's been any formal discussions, just that he's the man they want for the job. If so, he's certainly an interesting choice. An accomplished action director, Greengrass has yet to venture into any kind of supernatural or fantasy territory, and The Stand has those elements in spades. Anyway, this is just a rumor for now, we'll update if anything more solid leaks out.

To those who have read the Stand, do you think that it is better served with a 2-3 hour movie, or a tv series?

I read Under the Dome recently, an that was no where as long as the Stand seems to be.

@TheAstoundingMan
I definitely do NOT think It's a good idea to try to do The Stand as a single film. A cable type miniseries is the way to go.

This could be interesting, Greengrass certainly is an accomplished director.

@ Gusto - It's about a virus created by the U.S. military that leaks out. The virus has a 99% communicability rate, and proceeds to wipe out most of the population of earth. In the aftermath, the survivors begin to align themselves between two figures they keep dreaming about; one representing good and the other representing evil. It's a good book.

@ TheAstoundingMan - It's already been a mini-series, they got the majority of the book in that, but I reckon it could be a good trilogy of movies.

With the article stating they don't know if there's been any "formal discussions", it stands to reason that WB are definitely considering Greengrass. And even if this isn't the case, it's still a report of uncertain or doubtful truth, i.e. a rumour. Fan casting in itself is a great way to start a rumour.
The author of the article has been posting genuine news on here for years, so I'm inclined to take a bit more notice of this rumour while at the same time waiting to see what does happen.
