Find Out Which PUNISHER Comics Jon Bernthal Is Researching For DAREDEVIL Season 2

The former The Walking Dead actor has posted some pics of the comics he's reading up on for his upcoming role as Frank Castle in the second season of Netflix's Daredevil. Will they inform the plot at all? Either way, he's researching some quality Punisher arcs. Take a look...

Jon Bernthal continues to plough through Punisher comics to prepare to bring Frank Castle to life in season 2 of Daredevil. The actor returned to Hypnocomics in Ventura, and came away with some interesting light reading.

There's a 2010 issue of Punisher MAX which sees Castle alone in prison, reflecting on his family and the violent life he's chosen for himself. There's also 1986's Punisher: Circle of Blood, in which Castle meets the "Punishment Squad" and lies about killing the Kingpin, igniting a massive gang war in the process. Then we have Garth Ennis' acclaimed Punisher: War Zone - The Resurrection of Ma Gnucci, featuring Castle attempting to take out the Gnucci family once and for all.

Obviously we don't know if the plot of Daredevil season 2 will borrow from any of these arcs, but there's always the chance Marvel will at least take some influence from the best Punisher stories out there. The Kingpin stuff from Circle Of Blood in particular could make for an intriquing dynamic between Fisk and Castle on the show, and serve as a way to introduce the character.

Which other Punisher comics do you think Bernthal should be looking at?

I always, automatically have more faith in an actor when I see this kinda shit. I love when actors care about their role and research it heavily.

ok ... although i never read Ennis i hope the action in Daredevil s2 won't be as much grotesqe as it was in Punisher:WZ. I felt like i was watching some c-level horror movie. It looks cool, it probably put a smile on my face a couple of times, but it didn't mix up well with Punisher character. It was so over the top. Not to mention that bazooka scene. Campy fun.

the action imo should resemble the one from Dolp 80's Punisher flick. There is some really great scene at the beginning of the movie where he is taking some mob and his men out, then blows up the house in front of the reporters. It looks more in a vein of old Punisher comic books.

Also they could take some note from Thomas Jane flick. The assault on Frank family scene was pretty great.

@Fettastic
No mate it is shit.
A ridiculous plot that makes zero sense and apart from the great CGI Arnie at the start poor FX.
The critics are calling this correctly.

Look I will admit, I have never read the Punisher at least not in standalone form. I write this whilst hanging my head in shame. I am also not a fan of the Walking Dead or of Bernthal's part in it (Dam thats 3 strikes ouch!) but I am a huge Daredevil fan both on film and in the comics (Yay). When I read that Bernthal will be playing the Punisher in season two I thought this is a brilliant choice because one he can defiantly play the hard ass which will work well against Matt Murdock (Geez, that last sentence was definitely brought to you by the letter W) and two, because he is fricken TANK just look at the photo!!

Only Punisher I've ever read is Welcome Back Frank, but it's one of the best story arcs I've ever read, so... Yeah, Punisher's awesome.

The Punisher is a terrific character..maybe the best because out of wish fullfillment there's no way any of us can be from Krypton, come to Earth & be Superman.
Now if we get the proper training & weaponry, killing some scumbags like The Punisher does is possible. We won't but we can get a thrill out of knowing there's a slight possibility.

That's why I'm so intrigued with Frank Castle,it's only in a comic book world he's able to kill that many badguys & survive this long but there are guys out there who could do what he does if only briefly.
Bernthal should do a great job at bringing that dangerous believability to the screen if the writing is good.

There is only one story arc he needs to read...

Also,Daredevil & The Punisher may be the toughest dudes in the Marvel U.
I like Wolverine & Deadpool for example but those clowns know they can take damage & recover fully in mere moments.
Yea,they feel the pain too but mentally you can power through the trauma knowing it will be over soon.

Murdock & Castle take the damage & suffer with it until the wounds heal & many times endure the agony the rest of their lives but keep on coming.
Yea,these guys are true bad asses. Powered guys are a softer breed.

Wait a minute...why is Bernthal wearing that hat off to the side like a douche? There is only one way to wear a baseball cap, and that's the Mike Rowe way.

The only person who can pull off wearing a hat backwards is Grand Master B&Y.

It's all kind of hazy now but it was probably awesome at the time.
