Chances are you'll have seen this already if you caught Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters, but Disney/20th Century Studios has now officially released the first teaser trailer for James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water online.

This teaser doesn't really delve into the story in any significant way, but it does feature stunning footage of the long-awaited sequel, as returning heroes Jake Sully, (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) do everything they can to ensure their family's safety.

Exactly what threat the Na'vi are facing this time is unclear, but we do know that The Way of Water will be set over 10 years after the events of the first film, and it looks like some new human interlopers have arrived on Pandora.

Check out the trailer below along with a new poster, and let us know what you think.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.

Avatar: The Way of Water is set to hit theaters on December 16th, 2022.
