There's a new Predator movie in development at 20th Century Studios, and 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg has been enlisted to helm the project.

Shane Black's underwhelming 2018 effort, The Predator, seemed to put the sci-fi action film series to rest for a while, but it looks like the now Disney-owned studio is determined to breath new life into the franchise. Plot details are still under wraps, but this movie is not expected to have anything to do with the last one, and will tell a completely new story.

The script is being written by Patrick Aison, whose producer/writer credits include Kingdom, Jack Ryan and Treadstone.

The first - and by far the best - Predator movie came out back in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of a group of mercenaries who find themselves hunted by a merciless alien creature. Of the three movies that followed, only Nimród Antal's Predators (2010) came close to matching the visceral thrills of the original.

We'll just have to wait and see how this fifth movie progresses, but it's probably safe to assume that Predator fans are going to remain sceptical until we learn more.

@LameLuka - I liked Predators (2010) alot. Sadly it only did okay at the box office so they chose not to continue it.

I love 10 Cloverfield Lane ......but that last Predator movie burned me out for any and all future predator movies for a while.

@MrCamw1 - I love the Predator films; but I couldn’t make it through the last one. I still haven’t finished it yet.

Lost a lot on interest when the kid showed up. Seems like such a trope these days; young super intelligent child. I feel like it’s a studio head’s response to a trend of coding in schools. It’s like watching a 90s movie where every man is an architect, and women work in fashion magazines.

@MG0019 - yeap its ridiculous. And of all kid actors they grabbed one of the best and made him unwatchable.....and I like that kid in pretty much anything he's in so its unfortunate he had this role.

@MrCamw1 - To be fair 10 Cloverfield Lane was a nearly finished film called The Cellar before Bad Robot bought it and turned it into 10 Cloverfield Lane.

But 10CL was basically the same exact movie with a different ending to make it aliens instead of the world just being effected by radioactive fallout, like in the Cellar. They also added tiny easter eggs to lightly connect it to the Cloverfield franchise. But other than that, I have a hard time giving Dan Trachtenberg credit for 10CL being so great. 95% of that movie wqs already filmed under another writer and director. Trachtenberg never even saw the original draft of tbe movie because it was all finished when they bought it.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Dan Trachtenberg, but 10CL is probably not the best movie to decide if anyone thinks a new Predator film done by Dan will be good.

Very surprising news!

Thank fcking god that this movie will ignore the abysmal, POS The Predator. God what an awful, awful film. Also great to see that this will be released through 20th Century Studios (I imagine Deadpool will as well), this means it can be R rated.

In terms of the story, I hope its a sequel to the original film. Only Predators felt like a true faithful sequel.

@HeavyMetal4Life

Been wanting to rewatch Predators for a while now. Haven’t seen it in like ten years haha

@regularmovieguy - I think I'd give it like an 8 or so out of 10. Its not great but it has a lot of great moments, its stylized very much like Predator (same music at times as well), and has some solid characters. Also the idea of different factions of Predators (I'm not talking about the BS in The Predator) was done well enough imo.

@HeavyMetal4Life -

Man, I really hope that it hits the spot, remember being really hyped for the last one as Shane Black was Directing but not sure I can have much hope for another Good Predator movie.
Maybe they can go the TV series route???

@SimplyAz - yeah, I totally understand. I too was really hyped in the beginning for the last one, it had a lot of potential, but as we got closer to the release it became clear we had been misled.

I think the trick is to not over complicate it. Action movie stars do standard action movie things for the first act, then suddenly a Predator in the second act. Build up to a fight for the third act to see who is the real badass, the action star or the predator. That formula worked for the first two films.

Im actually talking about Shane Black's The Predator right now. I do consider it the worst with some wasted potential, but an overall enjoyable flick that I equate to a Dark Horse Comic. But what I would like to see is the potential Aliens vs. Predator returning with that branching of to new sequels, and a proper end to Ripley's story.

@RevanIsMyMan - no. Im actually basing this opinion on what he did to a couple of my favorite franchises. Predator and Ironman. Is it good?
