"Chewie, We're Home!" Breaking Down The New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

Yesterday I attended the Star Wars Celebration screening event in Dublin, and the new The Force Awakens teaser left everyone in attendance in awe (they made them run it 3 times!). After the jump I take a look at the best/most interesting moments, and speculate on the new revelations.

The stunning opening shot reveals a downed Star Destroyer and X-Wing on the planet "Jakku" (I still think it'll end up being Tatooine), as what appears to be Rey's "bumper car" speeds along in the distance. We'd heard she resided in a fallen AT-AT walker... will the gigantic Imperial ship actually be her home?

As Luke's voice-over kicks in we see flashes of Vader's charred helmet, what appears to be Luke placing a robotic hand affectionately on R2's head, and a mysterious new character (believed to be Lupita Nyong’o’s Rose) handing Princess Queen Leia Anakin Skywalker's original lightsaber, which was passed on to Luke by Obi Wan.

Next we see Oscar Isaac's "best fricken pilot in the galaxy", Poe Dameron, whooping away in his X-Wing. This Resistance fighter (no more Rebellion!) has been sent on a mission by Leia, and when he encounter's John Boyega's Finn, their "fates are forever intertwined".

Speaking of Finn, can this guy just take a rest already? In every shot the poor fella looks stressed to bits. Though we see him in his Stormtrooper outfit again, this shot confirms he'll be ditching the Imperial duds and teaming up with Rey and BB8. You'll notice it's a Tie Fighter opening fire as they flee.

We finally get a proper (official) look at the villainous Kylo Ren, believed to be played by Adam Driver. It looks like he's using the "force push" here as some new-look Storm Troopers cause trouble in the background. Just like The Rebellion is now The Resistance, the old Empire has been replaced by The First Order.

Another look at those First Order Troopers. You'll notice a black-clad figure overseeing these proceedings. Is it Kylo Ren sans mask? Or perhaps a character we haven't seen yet...

A close-up of Daisy Ridely's Rey. We know she'll be a solitary scavenger on the planet Jakku, though some leaked info suggests she'll have at least one cyborg companion... and BB8 of course! She's also rumoured to have family ties to one of the original saga characters, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Here is Captain Phasma (probably Gwendoline Christie), who is apparently Finn's superior officer and is charged with tracking him down after he deserts.

Finally we have the shot that practically had people sobbing at the screening I was at. Hey, I'm not poking fun.... I was one of them! I think most of us hoped Chewie would be sporting a few grey streaks (he is 250 years old after all) but perhaps he uses "Just For Wookies". Han is showing his age of course, but I think you'll agree Mr. Ford is looking great. By "home" it's assumed he means the Millennium Falcon, so we can also assume they've been parted from the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy for quite a while.
