Alien Prequel Gets A Title, Michael Fassbender And Michelle Yeoh Being Sought For Roles

It looks like the news that Ridley Scott's Alien prequel being delayed might have been premature. There is also news that the film has received a proper title. And, we have possible story and character details along with word that Scott is looking to cast Fassbender and Yeoh in key roles..

Vulture(Ny Mag) have an exclusive on the Alien prequel, and the article is packed with information. Firstly the reckon that production on the movie will not be delayed at all. Originally Scott wanted Leonardo Dicaprio for the lead role and was going to push back the release dates to accommodate him. But that's not happening now and things are back on schedule.

Next up, we no longer have to refer to the project as "untitled Ridley Scott Alien prequel", apparently it will be called simply: Paradise

Story wise..

We're told that Paradise reboots the original Alien franchise, in that the story follows a group of space travelers who encounter a monstrous alien creature that picks them off, one by one. Since there's no working budget yet on the film, formal offers have not gone out to actors, but our spies tell us that several are at the top of Scott's list for leading roles.

Sounds very similar to the first Alien to me. And no mention of The Space Jockey? Anyway, some of the names associated with those lead roles; Apparently Michael Fassbender is being looked at for the role of David the android, an early version of Bishop from the previous films. Vulture report that there have been problems because of high fee demands from Fassbender's reps but that the talks may sort themselves out. Scott is also keen to give the role of “Vickers” — a fortysomething, tough-but-sexy woman — to crouching tigress Michelle Yeoh.. The site also reports that Noomi Rapace is still the front runner for the female lead of Elizabeth Shaw.

And finally..

There are other interesting roles, including an older businessman along for the ride, but we’re most curious about the part of Engineer 1, who we’re told is to be "played" by a six-foot-five-inch actor, but will actually be entirely CGI, à la Gollum in The Lord of the Rings films.

A lot to take in there. And there is more! Be sure to click the link back to Vulture below for the full story. Lets hope this is on the level and Fassbender and Yeoh get those roles. Along with Rapace we would have a hell of a cast for this one.

@ earzmundo, is this Anil Ricky?

They should give it to Robert Rodriguez production company, he did a pretty good job with the last Predator movie.

I really enjoyed the Alien franchise. Alien vs. Predator I thought was the best of all the Alien/Predator movies. This prequel, however, doesn't sound that great.

You lost interest in a franchise because of two unrelated spinoffs that aren't in continuity?

I like the name Paradise, but what's with "reboot"? I'd be worried but I'm not sure that the word has retained any kind of definition beyond "not a direct continuation", although sometimes it has indeed been a direct continuation, like Superman Returns and possibly The Woverine. Does reboot just mean "new film", now? Hopefully they don't mean remake, anyways.

Like First Ass is a "reboot". Didn't we just coin the word prequel a little over a decade ago? What's wrong with the word prequel?
If it is a new continuity, starting from scratch, it's a remake.
If it takes place before, it's a prequel.
If it takes place after, it's a sequel.
If it takes place before and after, it's The Godfather Part II.
If it's both a sequel and a remake (depending on personal preferance) it's The Incredible Hulk. I think I've heard that called a Re-quel or a No-quel or something.
