We haven't had many updates on the Blade Runner 2099 Amazon series since it was officially announced last year, but we now have a very interesting new rumor relating to the show's lead.
On this week's episode of The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider mentions that Jodie Comer (Free Guy, Killing Eve) may be in talks to reunite with The Last Duel director Ridley Scott on the project.
Jeff didn't share any details on Comer's potential role, so we have no idea if she'd play one of the titular bounty hunters or a Replicant (Ryan Gosling was both in 2049).
Scott, who will executive produce and direct several episodes, closed the deal with Amazon Studios in early 2022. Silka Luisa is currently writing the series, and will also serve as showrunner.
“The original ‘Blade Runner’ film, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce ‘Blade Runner 2099’ to our global Prime Video customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios in a statement last year. “We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the ‘Blade Runner’ franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, ‘Blade Runner 2099’ will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”
Specific plot details are still under wraps, but the title obviously suggests that the series will be set long after the events of Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, so Harrison Ford is highly unlikely to return as Deckard - unless he really is a Replicant!
