BLADE RUNNER 2099: Jodie Comer Rumored To Be In Negotiations To Star In Prime Video Series

We haven't had many updates on the Blade Runner 2099 Amazon series since it was officially announced last year, but we now have a very interesting new rumor relating to the show's lead.

On this week's episode of The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider mentions that Jodie Comer (Free Guy, Killing Eve) may be in talks to reunite with The Last Duel director Ridley Scott on the project.

Jeff didn't share any details on Comer's potential role, so we have no idea if she'd play one of the titular bounty hunters or a Replicant (Ryan Gosling was both in 2049).

Scott, who will executive produce and direct several episodes, closed the deal with Amazon Studios in early 2022. Silka Luisa is currently writing the series, and will also serve as showrunner.

“The original ‘Blade Runner’ film, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce ‘Blade Runner 2099’ to our global Prime Video customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios in a statement last year. “We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the ‘Blade Runner’ franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, ‘Blade Runner 2099’ will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but the title obviously suggests that the series will be set long after the events of Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, so Harrison Ford is highly unlikely to return as Deckard - unless he really is a Replicant!

I love Blade Runner and 2049. These were great movies with terrific visions. I hope the series continues to capture the magic these pictures had.

@AvisQuinn - I love both of those films dearly. I haven’t see the Cartoon Network series so I have no idea how that’s turned out but this seems promising

@AvisQuinn - Yes it's called Blade Runner: Black Lotus: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9359796/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_6

The first season was really good. Better than I thought it would be and kept the aesthetic of the films really well.

Blade Runner 2049 is an underappreciated masterpiece and an amazing legacy sequal (take notes Star Wars)

I would be way more excited about this if Villeneuve was involved and not hit or miss Scott.

@PlusUltra - So was 1982...Lisa DeLeuuw was the hottest woman on the planet. Billy Squier ruled the airwaves...Well, those days are gone, we're [frick]ed. So, now what, genius?

@PlusUltra - It's a damn shame that social media has basically run the soundtrack to the ground with how much they overuse it in YT shorts and Tiktoks.

I've always wanted to see a story from the Blade Runner universe where the replicants' point of view is explored.

Imagine a murder on a space colony and we delve into the lives of various suspects. For example, a "basic pleasure model" created to satisfy the most depraved sexual desires, but while she suffers degradation, her mind travels beyond that place. She has dreams and hopes...

2049 is a masterpiece and will be tough to follow even of Ridley is behind this. Prime has been hit or miss with big properties, but I'm hyped.

That's pretty a good addition to the cast.

Also had no idea Amazon was making a Blade Runner show. Guess at a production level Amazon is the right place to make a cyberpunk show.

Do not turn music all way up in movie that it over shadows sound effects and people talking in blade runner sequel.,

I'm so looking forward to this, but they'll have to give it the appropriate budget to truly capture that Cyberpunk world.

I wish they would make a Blade Runner anime. And I know we got Black Lotus, but I'm talking about old-school 90's style 2D anime.

2049 and the first blade runner are absolute masterpieces of cinema. No film has come close to the immense world building and the nuance’s, the complex characters and that soundtrack will go down as historic pieces of pop culture. Philip K Dick needs more love for his work. We did not deserve him

Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 was EPIC. I would have loved a sequel. I'll be looking for this on Amazon.
