Blade Runner 2099: The Replicants Take Over In Thrilling New Trailer For Upcoming Limited Series

During their NYCC panel last night, Amazon MGM Studios and Alcon Television Group debuted the official teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2099, offering a stunning new look at their highly anticipated eight-episode limited series, which is headlined by Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer.

While plot details are being kept most under wraps, the series synopsis reads, "Fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049, Los Angeles has been reborn, just not by humanity. Cora, a fugitive in a final bid to stop running, takes on one last identity: a Blade Runner. Forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant days from dying, she hunts down a runaway hiding a truth that could collapse a fragile city."

Yeoh plays Olwen, while Schafer portrays Cora. Teasing the show's underlying mystery, showrunner Silka Luisa teases Olwen is “supposed to be looking for human insurgents, humans that continue to fight back. But… she’s actually here looking for a Blade Runner who’s gone missing, Merrick, one of her colleagues, and that’s the first time that happened.”

She adds, “We are 50 years after 2049, and bad news. The worst has happened. The replicant uprising that has been bubbling up in the films has taken place, and humans have lost. 2099 is taking place at a junction point when one species is ending and a new one is rising. The first film, something I loved about it was that it was looking at mortality on a micro level. Roy Batty and the other replicants were fighting for more life. This show asked that same question, but on a macro level. Mankind, what happens when we realize our time is running out? Are we going to accept that loss? Can we hold on to our humanity during it?”

The main cast features Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria, Cuckoo), Dimitri Abold (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Love Addicts), and Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy, Get Duked!).

Recurring guest stars include Katelyn Rose Downey (The Nun II, The Princess), Daniel Rigby (Renegade Nell, Black Mirror), Johnny Harris (A Gentleman in Moscow, Jawbone), Amy Lennox (Only Child, Holby City), Sheila Atim (The Woman King, The Underground Railroad), Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon, Napoleon), Tom Burke (Furiosa, Strike), and Maurizio Lombardi (Ripley, The Young Pope).

Silka Luisa serves as showrunner, creator and executive producer. Ridley Scott, Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Alcon’s President of Television Ben Roberts, Steven Johnson, David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger from Scott Free Productions, Richard Sharkey, Tom Spezialy, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, Tim Gable, and Isa Dick Hackett serve as executive producers. Jonathan van Tulleken (Shōgun) is an executive producer and directed the first two episodes of the upcoming limited series.

Blade Runner 2099 premieres, with all eight episodes, on November 25, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Joi is the one character that could be around in this time and I'm surprised they didn't bring her back. Ana is a big name who would bring in viewers.

@defenderofthefaith - They may have asked and she turned it down. Who knows, she may turn up for a cameo or as an easter egg, somewhere in this.

I can't wait to see this! The 2 trailers have been spot on, right in line with the 2 movies. I think it looks fantastic, and my only worry is that it doesn't live up to the expectations that I now have as a result.

@Patient2670 - now i just gotta check out the films before this…

Honestly its really strange i have not seen them so far considering a noir detective story in a cyberpunk setting is right up my alley.

@TheVisionary25 - You definitely should. As long as you remember, they're absolutely detective stories, in sci fi settings. Neither are fast paced action movies. They're both among my all time favorites. The good part is that all 3 are set decades apart, so if you don't get to, you'd probably still OK in terms of following story.

I hope you get to see them first and look forward to hearing what you think. Between this show and Ray Gunn, it's looking like a good time for the genre.

@TheVisionary25 - Aside from the "early reactions" I've seen posted online, I'm hearing really good things from friends and people I trust. They all say it's something special. I'm having a tough time tempering my expectations.

The music is very reminiscent of Vangelis, which is a huge plus. And the visuals look like a good blend of the original and 2049. Hopefully the writing is well done.

Why does Hollywood HAVE to take any classic Male IP and turn it into a WOKE MUTATION? I GUARANTEE if they remake DIE HARD it will be a female as the new hero and if you Don't like it uoure6ANTI ANTI-FEMINIST

Patient2670
Patient2670 - 10/11/2026, 3:44 PM
@JohnShaft - Why are you so upset about a female protagonist? It's far from the first time they have one in this particular universe. The 4th novel in the series - Blade Runner: Eye and Talon- was focused on a female Blade Runner. Several of the comics were focused on women, and the animated series, Blade Runner: Black Lotus had a femal lead. If you think about it, even the 2 movies were heavily centered on female characters. The sequels to Dick's novel were all actually comissioned and approved By his family. The Comics and animated series, were all done by or in association with Alcon- the company who made 2049 and holds the rights to the property. I'm not accusing you of being Anti anything, just that you clearly arent too well versed on this particular universa and are trying to make it into something it isn't.
