Prometheus held off stiff competition from both of these films, opening up at #1 in 14 of the 15 countries it was released in for an estimated weekend gross of $35M. After we reported its strong opening in the UK yesterday, it has now been confirmed that it had an overall debut of $9.99M. Finally,
Marvel's The Avengers added £12.4M to its current overseas gross and has now become only the fifth movie ever to earn more than $800 million overseas. It also has the #3 spot on the list of all-time highest grossing movies and should pass $1.4 billion before opening in Japan this August. Domestically, the superhero ensemble made $20.3M domestically (taking its total to $552.7M).
