Christopher Nolan's Upcoming TENET Reportedly Has A Budget Of Over 200 Million Dollars

Not much is known about Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan's upcoming action thriller Tenet, but it has now been reported that the budget for the mysterious film is over $200 million. Read on for more...

Variety recently reported that the budget figure for director Christopher Nolan's (Inception, The Dark Knight) upcoming feature Tenet could be somewhere in the 225 million dollar area, and Collider has now confirmed that Tenet's budget will indeed be over 200 million dollars.

This isn't unusual for Nolan, as his hit film Inception boasted a budget of 160 million dollars itself. For a time there was speculation that Tenet was going to be the secret sequel to that film, but there really isn't anything to back that up so we wouldn't count on it.

The cast of Tenet likely commands a pretty penny. There's our new Batman Robert Pattinson and BlacKkKlansman's John David Washington, along with supporting stars such as Michael Caine (Kingsmen: The Secret Service, The Dark Knight) and Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Cloverfield Paradox). The questiong is, how much is the marketing going to add to this already hefty sum, and with the numbers totaling this high, could this film prove to be even bigger than Inception?

Let us know what you think in the comments and be sure to check out the trailer for Tenet below!

An action epic film evolving from the world of international espionage, Tenet is directed and produced by Christopher Nolan and co-produced by Emma Thomas. The film stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Kaine, and Kenneth Branagh.

Warner Bros and Christopher Nolan's Tenet hits theaters July 17th, 2020.

Shoot, looking forward to this but this could be a loss. Detective movies usually don't make much money. Blade Runner 2049 failed and that was a sequel to another great movie.

Im sure this will be great, but geese if there is some aspect to the story that makes it different, might want to tease it more in the advertising. Without a big hook, who knows how it will do

@dracula - This movie will make a lot of money, it's not comparable to Blade Runner 2049 at all. Inception made almost $900m worldwide in 2010.

For the director that gave us the two best comic book films ever made, it is well worth it!

It doesn't look like a film that requires such a huge budget....so far.

Wasn't sold on the first trailer, but boy did the Imax Preview before Star Wars blow me away. Looks stunning.

Nolan has such a guaranteed audience, it wouldn't surprise me if they presented him with a blank cheque.

@MisterTriffid - Does he thought? Don’t get me wrong I’m a huge Nolan fan but I think with the GA he’s lost a lot of awareness since The Dark Knight Trilogy wrapped

@Ha1frican - I'm just curious. How are General Audience defined? Are they very well aware of who directs a film?. In my own circle, it is only me and my wife who talks about directors, writers, composers, cinematographers, actors before deciding to watch a film.

@Ha1frican - Well, judging that his last two movies, Interstellar and Dunkirk were both financial and critical successes, and he has consistently released a movie every two to three years,I would say yes.

@geekarchitect - I think there is a shortlist of directors that people are aware of. I’d say Nolan, Tarantino, and probably JJ Abrams are well know enough now that more people that not that actually go to the movies have at least heard their name and can associate it with one or more movies.

@MisterTriffid - I think that’s as because they are good movies that had positive word of mouth though not bc the majority of people who saw it were a built in fan base. Now don’t get me wrong he absolutely does have a very dedicated fan base myself included but in terms of making something a box office succes o don’t think that’s why those last two did well

@Ha1frican - Well, whatever he is doing it's working and movie companies can't argue with that.

Nolan still leaves me cold... I haven’t enjoyed his post Dark Knight films all that much, personally. But I realize that a huge number of filmgoers feel differently, so a budget like this doesn’t seem like such a risk to me.
