Dana's Son Oscar Will Be A GHOSTBUSTER In The Sequel

Vanity Fair recently published a fascinating article looking back at the Ghostbusters franchise and in it Sigourney Weaver, who played Dana Barrett in the two films, revealed that her son Oscar will be a Ghostbuster in sequel. Check it out.

In Ghostbusters II, Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) has a baby son. His name is Oscar, but we never find out his last name and it strongly implied that his father is not Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), but actually that of the violinist from the first film. You know, the one Venkman refers to as the "stiff" and Dana refers to as "nose spray." In the clip below, Dana briefly mentions that Oscar's father left them to go play for the London symphony. Perhaps, Dana was lying and it is actually Peter's love child. I'm sure we'll find out in Ghostbusters III as Oscar is locked in to play a major role in the film as a fellow Ghostbuster.
Sigourney Weaver says that during one relatively recent conversation with Ivan Reitman, “I said, I have one condition want my son Oscar [from Ghostbusters II] to be a Ghostbuster, and he said, ‘We’ve already done that.’”

Also, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the pair that have directed 21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie, and 22 Jump Street, explained to ScreenCrush why they passed on the opportunity to direct Ghostbusters 3.
Right now, we’re just super tired and we want to take a break. We’re doing a TV show with Will Forte. So, we don’t really know what we’re gonna do next, we just know we can’t jump into another movie like that right away.

GHOSTBUSTERS II - After waging a war on slime that cost New York City millions, the Ghostbusters find themselves out of business until an ancient tyrant, preparing a return to the Earthly domain through his portrait at the Manhattan Museum of Art, sets his sights on Dana Barrett's baby as the new home for his wicked soul! With the help of the Museum's possessed curator, he plans to turn New York into a really scary place to live! Now only the Ghostbusters can save New York City, by turning paranormal pest control into an art form!

Cast: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudson,
Annie Potts, Peter MacNicol, Harris Yulin, David Margulies, Kurt Fuller
Director: Ivan Reitman * Screenwriters: Harold Ramis & Dan Aykroyd

Had to happen this way. It's a shame that there's only gonna be two original ghostbusters in the film, though.
Personally, I think that Ackroyd should the CEO of Ghostbusters (Murray would opt out, as he has done in real life, and Ramis would have passed). He should be the suit in the office who has become corrupt and has made deals with demons to keep his Ghostbusters franchise in business and keep the world supplied with controllable ghosts to bust.
Hudson should be the blue collar worker, the old war horse, training up new recruits. He wouldn't be a co-owner of Ghostbsters, since he was paid work-for-hire in the original and not a founder.
If they can get Murray in there, he shold be the Mayor of NY. I mean that's just obvious, right?

Can they just not do this, it's getting sad. The only ghost that needs busting is Ackroyd's career.

I thought at some point they should say that Dana Barrett was came from a family that had a history of supernatural rituals and culture. That could make an interesting G3, as her son still has the bloodline and the supernatural beings would come after him too.

I thought at one point that Sigourney Weaver revealed that Oscar was actually the son of Dana and Peter???

Maybe Wes Anderson could direct this. That would pretty much secure Murray, right?
If not, I hear Edgar's free.

sKeemAn@ That's pretty interesting. So maybe it wasn't a coincidence that Weaver moved into Spook Central. Maybe Ivo Shandor's cult had been going all Alaistar Crowley; breeding a magickal child.
It'd be cool if they got back to the original plot in a way. It had a good message to it. Important stuff.

With no Ramis and no Murray, why would they even bother pursuing this movie? Unless they CGI Weavers face, Oscar should be 22-23 now.

Have you see the original cast these days? They look so old that I couldn't laugh at their material. I would be too distracted by how they look to get into the film.

There is no recent hits based on 1980's movies that suggests this would work. Few people under 25 even know about Ghostbusters. So this is really a bad idea.

Any studio that green lights a Ghostbusters 3 or a remake fully deserves to go under for such ignorance and stupidity.

All these attempts at remaking 80's movies are doing nothing but taking a huge dump on them. Just as Stallone, Schwarzenegger and others are taking dumps on whatever legacies they had from their glory days.
