Matt Reeves will re-team with Let Me In actor Kodi Smit-McPhee for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. Deadline report the news and mention that he'll play a lead role, but don't reveal which character he'll play. The other day we found out that Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke would play the main lead, and we also found out some new plot details. The movie will be set 15 years after the last one, with a group of scientists struggling to survive alone in San Francisco, while Caesar, played by a returning Andy Serkis, tries to maintain dominance over his kingdom. The script is currently being written by Mark Bomback (Total Recall, The Wolverine), with Peter Chernin, Dylan Clarke, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa on board to produce. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is set to hit theaters May 23rd, 2014.

I just wish James Franco was back. I didn't really feel like there was closure to his character.

They should have made a sequel to Tim Burton's movie. At least it would have had a chance to explain some things in that one so it could make sense more. But no, fans pissed and moaned about it so they pussed out and made an unnecessary reboot. Sure, Rise was good but I liked the Burton movie better.

It wasn't that bad. It's just that Burton never got around to making a sequel to explain everything. Sure it was confusing but it was a nice setup for a 2nd which would have probably helped it make more sense. It could have been a kickass series of films. The costume designs were nice and the acting was really good. One of Burton's most underrated movies ever.

Roth was great. It wasn't the best movie but still a nice effort to create a new series. Just a shame we'll never get to see what could have been.

Rise was good. Very surprising. Greaty storytelling. Hopefully Dorn of the Planet of the Apes will be just as good or even better.

When I read comments like 'I wouldn't call either of these actors great', what is this based on exactly?

Both Jason Clarke and Kdoi Smit-McPhee are great actors. Especially Clarke. So is it the case of "I don't know this people, therefore I will dismiss them" fanboyism, or "I haven't seen them in a lot but i'll just jump the gun out of ignorance" fanboyism?

@bonesmcgee personally I wouldn't call either of them 'great actors', simply because I'd reserve that for the upper echelon of actors, true screen legends like Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, Daniel Day Lewis, James Dean etc, or perhaps the best of the younger generation of actors, like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, Heath Ledger or Bradley Cooper.

Jason Clarke is very good from what little I've seen of him (Lawless is the one I really remember him in), but he's not exactly great yet, as he's never really had a chance to achieve greatness. I've never seen Kodi Smit-McPhee in anything so I can't comment, but considering how young he is, it's very unlikely that he could've achieved acting greatness yet. Again, that doesn't mean that I think he's a bad actor (I've never seen him in anything), just that the term 'great' should be reserved for the very best.

Would be kinda cool if the 3rd or 4th film was a remake of the original that was actually good.
