Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has officially given the green light to All You Need Is Kill, an adaptation of the science fiction graphic novel of the same name. Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) will be directing, while Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are set to star in the film. Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally and Jason Hoffs are producing through 3 Arts Entertainment. Dante Harper wrote the script with executive producer Joby Harold.

Cruise began work on the movie last Friday in London. He recently completed production on another sci-fi graphic novel adaptation, Oblivion (which will be in theaters April 26th, 2013).

No release date for All You Need Is Kill has been announced yet, but expect an official announcement from WB in the near future. In the mean time, below is a plot summary of the graphic novel:

There’s one thing worse than dying. It’s coming back to do it again and again… When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the Bitch of War. Is the Bitch the key to Keiji’s escape, or to his final death?

I've read the light novel, and heard the script is meant to be good so who knows it might work out. I think Tom Cruise is an OK choice although it worked so well in the novel because protagonist was a young soldier who you gradually see grow in to bad ass warrior, so an younger actor would have been preferable but Cruise proved with MI4 that he still has it in him, when he's not being totally [frick]ing crazy.

I'll see both of them. Cruise is solid. Especially in futuristic movies. Some of his movies aren't very good, but his perfomances are solid at least.

Am i the only one getting sick and tired of Tom Cruise being in everything? He's 50 years old. Get someone young and unknown.

We need the NEW Tom Cruise.

Matt Damon and Sam Jackson are in everything. Cruise is barely in a movie a year anymore. I was surprised he is already filming this.

I don't get how Tom Cruise is going to play the lead in this film when in the book it is a young man.
