The original film might have come out way back 1996, but it appears
Roland Emmerich keeps wanting us to think that a sequel to
Independence Day might still be in the cards.
Yes, with his latest offering of disasto-porn,
2012, about to hit our cinemas, it's no surprise that the director is being asked about the possibility of the follow-up.
"What we want to do in the next – it's actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc," he tells MTV. "Independence Day was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that." According to Emmerich, he has a title - ID4-Ever
We're sure Fox would want to get on board, given how successful the original was. But, as he cautions, it's nowhere near happening yet.
"There's an idea. The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don't know how many years ago this was—twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago—and just continue where it ended."
According to MTV movies blog, ID4-Ever will be two movies (part 1 and 2), however, at this time, it is only an idea. It will also be set on Earth. Emmerich also hopes to get Will Smith involved in the sequel.
