Emmerich Talks Independence Day Sequel

Emmerich Talks Independence Day Sequel

ID4-Ever, anyone?

The original film might have come out way back 1996, but it appears Roland Emmerich keeps wanting us to think that a sequel to Independence Day might still be in the cards.

Yes, with his latest offering of disasto-porn, 2012, about to hit our cinemas, it's no surprise that the director is being asked about the possibility of the follow-up.

"What we want to do in the next – it's actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc," he tells MTV. "Independence Day was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that." According to Emmerich, he has a title - ID4-Ever

We're sure Fox would want to get on board, given how successful the original was. But, as he cautions, it's nowhere near happening yet.

"There's an idea. The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don't know how many years ago this was—twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago—and just continue where it ended."

According to MTV movies blog, ID4-Ever will be two movies (part 1 and 2), however, at this time, it is only an idea. It will also be set on Earth. Emmerich also hopes to get Will Smith involved in the sequel.

6of13: Where will the film pick off? I would think it would make logical sense for the Earth's citizens to assimilate the alien technology from the wreckage of the alien ships. Are we prepared to sit through another aliens-invade-Earth-blow stuff to smithereens-mega flick again? We will have to wait and see after Emmerich's 2012 film is released on November 13, 2009.

I liked ID4. Do alien computers speak binary? Well, I suppose advanced alien tech could interpret human designed computer programmes like viruses.
Jurassic Park was not a disaster. Can't say the same for Jurassic Park 4 yet.

This movie was like a cash machine for the studio, why a sequel wasn't made a couple of years later is beyond me. God knows there has been so many sequels to far inferior movies then Independence Day. Then again sometimes it's better to leave a good thing alone, then beat it in to the ground.

I saw 2012 this morning, I thought it was a great movie.

It is a little cliche at points, but the scenes that seem cheesy in the trailers are actually pretty intense during the actual movie. It is long, but it is not boring at all.

@ flames

don't worry little guy. nothing is going to happen on dec. 21 2012. if it does, i'll eat my shoe...if im not dead.

At the very least we should be prepared for the actions of crazies on 2012.

I myself am crossing my fingers for a world wide black out via solar flare. Escape from LA style.

For the dude that is actually afraid of he movie, the method they used in the movie to destroy the world was apparently debunked by the scientific community as soon as its author released it, Einstein wrote the forward of the paper, but it is still supposed to be hog wash. This is from a Discovery channel show that was promoting the 2012 movie.

Independence day was the greatest movie of the 90's. don't f*ck it up with a money grab sequel.
they already tried that with the second greatest movie of the 90's. Jumanji.
zathura was a crap factory.

Ryden, I love you brother, but ottoevans was only playing with you. "We'll bring Democracy to your doorstep" is a funny way of saying we'll put a JDAM on your stoop. Grow a funny bone, man.

And an American going a day without a European calling us a douche is like a day without sun shine. Sure it's tenable, but it doesn't bring a smile to our face. It is encoded into American DNA to piss off our cousins. We goad and pick just to get that angry, "Douche,” only then can we sleep soundly at night. And don't forget roughly 4% of the US population is either of Scottish or Scotch/Irish decent... 9 million of us, including me, thanks for the genes.

Also, ID4 was an American produced movie, and since the US gross usually equals or outstrips the international one then of course films made here will cater to the "RA RA!!! WE'RE NUMBER ONE!!! AMERICA, [frick] YEAH!!!" summer movie rush here. Don't like it? Two things you can do. Don't see an American summer blockbuster, or start a Scottish film industry that will rival ours in one hundred years.

Besides, you can kick our ass in soccer anytime you want, that's all that matters. Doesn't that make you happy? Tell me you don't go to a match with the Scottish National team (as an American I don't even know if there is one, sorry) verses anybody else and don't scream, "We're number one! Scotland, [frick] yeah!" And if you don't, you should. I promise, no American would call you a douche for saying it.
