M. Night Shyamalan (The Last Airbender) recently wrapped production on his post-apocalyptic sci-fi flick After Earth, which stars Will & Jaden Smith, Isabelle Fuhrman and Zoe Kravitz. The film (which was written by The Book Of Eli's Gary Whitta) is scheduled to appear at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 14th. Included in the panel's description was the first plot summary for the movie. Check it out below (be warned, however; the following has a couple of spoilers from the film):

In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

And for those who will be attending Comic-Con, "The SDCC panel will include the film’s screenwriter Gary Whitta and cinematographer Peter Suschitzky, as well as the team behind the tie-in comic book After Earth: Innocence, artist Beni Lobel and writers Robert Greenberger and Michael Friedman. Peter David, author of the After Earth prequel novel, will also be there."

Many thanks to JoBlo for the heads up. After Earth is set to hit theaters June 7th, 2013.

M Night needs to bounce back, He had a few good films but that was early 2000's. Please don't make anything stupid anymore Mr. M Night. We as fans of Movies cannot take anymore crap from decent film makers.

The SMITH'S = Box office success

Hopefully since it's not WRITTEN by M.Night it will be pretty solid....what's with all the JADEN hate....jealous of the rich little black kid?

I wanted to punch this kid in "The Day The Earth Stood Still", and you know Jennifer Connellly wanted say" STFU! You're the kid, I'm the adult!". Then there's Karate Kid....barf!!!! NEPOTISM, must be nice. Will Smith is even losing appeal for me.

The story alone sounds weak. Sounds like something SYFY would do.I think I'll pass on this.

Haha, tea. That's still funny even until now.

Anyway, I don't know...that's an interesting premise, I'd say, and I really like the Smiths. I'll wait till I see more.

Jaden looks like a darker version of me.... And this film's plot is interesting. Let's see what the directing by M. Night does to it.

His latest movie went straight to DVD and his agent is doing an okay job of hiding it, but I think most people are catching on that M. Night, is just a very very very lucky guy. Thats it. He only made one good movie for grifs sake...

Haha, I guess I'm the only person who doesn't hate M Night, The only one of his movies I really didnt like was The Village. Didn't see The Airbender one as I have no interest in that. I thought his first three movies were very good. The Lady in the Water and The Happening were just good.

I like the concept of After Earth, but will need to see a trailer before I commit to seeing it though. I don't have the Big Willy Style hate that most on here seem to have, as I find his movies to typically be good popcorn type movies. I really liked Hancock(let the flaming begin).

I LOVED The Lady in the Water.
One of my favourite movies.
Talontd
Talontd - 7/2/2012, 12:10 PM
LADY IN THE WATER took a lot of heat because it wasn't marketed properly. It was a spooky children's story that was made for kids.....that's it. He basically created a fairy tale for his daughter. I liked it, because I understood (from interviews with him) what it was before going in...

There is however, NO EXCUSE for AIRBENDER & THE HAPPENING......straight garbage!!!

I probably wouldn't hate AIRBENDER so much if M.NIGHT didn't go about talking it up so much tho, "This will be my Lord of the Rings" and all that sh!t.

@Scabsallover

I know your joking, but I don't really get what your implying. Are you trying to imply that JADEN gets hate because he acts like he's hood??? Just because he's black, that doesn't make him hood. He has always been one of the most well-spoken actors of his age, on par with CHLOE MORETZ. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you, but as I said, I don't get what you're implying...

F*ck, an entire movie about the other Smith? Not interested. I liked the Karate Kid remake for what it was, but it was still boring as hell for what it could've been.

The man ruined the last airbender which if he knew anything about the source material and cast more suitable actors for those roles it could have been good, that to me is unforgivable
