The Back to the Future trilogy is hitting Blu-ray on October 26 and a first look at the original Marty McFly, Eric Stoltz, from the set is now online.

In case you didn't know, writer/director Robert Zemeckis was five weeks into shooting Back to the Future when he and executive producer Steven Spielberg made the drastic decision to change the lead actor as Stoltz's comedic timing just wasn't working for the film. It was then that Michael J. Fox was brought in and he reshot all those scenes from the first five weeks.

You can now check out a clip from the never-before-seen footage below!

WOW .......I would have loved to have heard Eric Stoltz say some of the BTTF lines to compare between him and MJ Fox. It seems as if Stoltz game the film a more serious tone?

I saw some footage of Eric Stoltz and Doc Brown in the mall parking lot some years back. It was very strange seeing another actor in the role of Marty McFly. Michael J. Fox was just too right for the part.

remember hearing about this, Eric Stoltz was just too serious while playing Marty McFly.

If you think that, you have no soul. Michael J Foxs Marty Mcfly is one of the most iconic figures in movie cinema history.

NO ****!!!

I remember watching Fringe, and in the alternate universe there was a sign at the theater which read "Back to the Future...staring Eric Stoltz."

...that's where that came from. I had no idea.

Haha that's so weird, thank god they made that switch.

I think BTTF is the greatest movie of all time, and then the sequels made it the greatest trilogy ever.

Obviously it worked for the best. Stoltz just isn't that lighthearted silly guy...until "Pulp Fiction."

Eric Stoltz is a fine actor. Its just BACK TO THE FUTURE wasn't his movie. It was the 80's and only Michael J. Fox can do the role justice. And re-shooting 5 weeks of work proves Zemeckies is a great director.

@marvel, I agree wholeheartedly that MJF was the shit in this movie and no one could have done it better, however, Stoltz most certainly played the silly role before this. He was Spicoli's buddy in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
