does anyone else think this sounds like either the title of a trashy romance novel or a new fast and furious movie?

Funny how it can apply to both those genres, there's a joke about their writing quality in there somewhere only I just can't manage to reach it.

lots of great stuff said in this vid. That vehicle they were looking at looks SO BITCHIN. Niiiiice

He does in fact say that he will let us know when the decision is made, which is great.
That's so unlike many others that do not do that. A lot of productions do not annouce the principles until way after casting is completed.

You know just this once I am not going to be particularly picky. I don't think the acting side of the character of Mad Max is that big of a deal in this case. Mel was a fledgeling actor when he first played Max.
Between his acting noobieness, and the cruddy overdubbs good vs bad acting almost seemed a moot issue on the earlier films.
Plus the figure of Mad max is that of a broken, soulless man. A consumate warrior lost and alone in the wastes of civilization, wwith nothing to do with himself but run down bikers to take their petrol and wander from one fight to the next.
Even the pain and loss of his family just swirls away withthe dust of the ruined world that is his domain.

It doesn't necessarily have to be an extremely perfect actor. This character doesn't say much, his facial expression rarely changes. It's easy acting wise

@ wards: why?
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 10/26/2009, 10:34 AM
yeah why indeed. If it were a reboot I'd ask why, but it's just another great max actioner from the sound of things. And that's the kind of movie that can go on like the energizer bunny for all I care.

I like Hardy for the role and hope Worthington doesn't end up with it.

What does everyone think of Eric Bana for it? Dude rocks as an actor, has the accent and according to Chopper can definately kick some butt.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 10/26/2009, 12:48 PM
I like Bana too..he's class. Whoever it is, I just hope they don'g pg13 the shit out of it..but of course, they probably will:( It doesn't pay to be an adult in a world run by people who love kids money.

Hey, anyone else confused by Bruce Spence in the 3rd movie? He was playing the Giro Captain from the 2nd one right? But Max acted like he had no idea who he was..or did I miss something??
JerusalemJr
JerusalemJr - 10/26/2009, 1:00 PM
@Ror Maybe without the Giro he was less of a man and Max didn't recognize him because of it.

Actually if I remember right there is a brief moment where Max looks like he sort of recognizes him but they are in a hurry to head out. Then again it has been a while since I watched Thunderdome so I could be wrong.

And I agree, making any Mad Max a PG-13 movie would ruin the movie.... unless it is something like "Mad Max 1/2: Big Wheels Wars".
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 10/26/2009, 1:39 PM
Hardy is f*cking fantastic actor! Seeing him as Mad Max would be awesome! But i think that Worthington can pull it off too. I dont understand why everybody hate him? Both actors are great.
Ouh! And Michael fassbender for the role of villain.

AND PLEASE NO PG-13!!!
JerusalemJr
JerusalemJr - 10/26/2009, 1:48 PM
I actually kind of like Worthington, I am looking forward to the Clash of the Titans movie, however I just don't see him as being good as Mad Max.

@ Thatiscrazy: That is crazy. lol

Now whats this about the copter pilot guy?

@ Rorschach01, yeah that was really really wierd. What were they thinking? They could have easily made it a reunion type of thing where the pilot was like "oh no, not again"
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 10/26/2009, 2:29 PM
Yeah, I thought so. Why put him in the movie at all if your not gonna use him properly? Anyway, Thunderdome was by far the weakest..still good but a bit too glossy or something, max lost some of his grit.

I do like Hardy..but, theres something about his voice that kind of annoys me. He kinda sounds..no offense here..but, a bit downs syndrome or something!

JerusalemJr
JerusalemJr - 10/26/2009, 2:43 PM
Thunderdome may have been the worst of the three but it had so many good quotes to it.

"He's got the mind of a child!"
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 10/26/2009, 3:01 PM
oh yeah, that's true. Thunderdome had that ruinous Hollywood-ish polish on it that took it out of it's original tone somewhat. But it many of the original elements were there. The desperate living.. everyones a bum. Not just Max, but everybody.

In Road warrior, you had people attempting to create a new society with people huddled around an oil refinery, defending it like it's a medeival castle.

So I think the thinking on the third one was some kind of progression from that with the specter of greed, human cruelty, and such that was there again.. the same things that decimated the human race in the first place is there inexorably like a shadow all over again. And what happened? Bartertown was destroyed.

Well this is my pick. Jackman is an amazing leading man and would be perfect for the role in many ways, including the fact that he is australian.

and "two men enter one man leaves" is still in my opinion one of the best movie lines ever. it is still quoted to this day all over the place.

@Betty: Thanks man.
I saw MM2 at a drive in when I was a little kid and it made a huge impression. massive. I have been thinking about it ever since I guess lol

I just hope they don't cheese it up, and that they don't take what was cool about it and turn into yet another shallow veneer. It needs to be dirty, gritty, harsh. Realistic violence and gore. Desperation and privation.

Anything less and the critics will stomp it and so will we I suspect
BillyBlack
BillyBlack - 10/26/2009, 7:08 PM
I thought Thunderdome was awesome.

That movie hits the ground running and never lets up. The Thunderdome battle and that shit happens in like the first 20 mins. "Break a deal, face the wheel", all the Captain Walker shit, and even the destruction of Bardertown was bad ass. It had more production value but is that a bad thing? The first one could've used a bit more wouldn't you say? "THAT THING IN THERE AIN'T GOOSE!!!" I think the degradation of civilization was about right, picture to picture. If anything, the original was a bit too everyday for post apocalyptic life. He still had a job for cryin out loud!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 10/26/2009, 7:43 PM
Hey Billy!

Well, it wasn't so much the look and the effects, obviously better can only be ..better! But the tone was lightened slightly too. Max wasn't quite the ruthless bastard he was in the first 2, and the violence was curtailed too. And then we get all the kids! I mean, I know we had that little feral [frick]er in the 2nd one but he was just one...we get an army of them in the 3rd one! I still really liked it, but just not as much as the other ones.

Anyway, u heard any Lost rumors? I haven't heard a peep..they are keeping the cards for the last season close to their chests...
BillyBlack
BillyBlack - 10/27/2009, 9:47 AM
Hey Ror

I know what you mean about Max getting soft. I think he was just tired of all the wandering. They def coulda punched up the violence too, so maybe a reboot is in order to get all these things corrected. I recently watched the trilogy and though of all the things they decided to reboot, this could be the one they get right. Make sure it's hard R, that's why I thought maybe Mel should take the reins from Georgie boy and direct it himself. Mel can make a violent ass movie!

As for LOST, not much news after the SCC. That lil trailer they had was lights out thought! I tried to find it on youtube to post but they pulled it. I did hear that Katey Sagal will prob be back, among other old Losties like Boone. Mr. Eko even wants back in!

@ DarthMulder: Now whats this about the copter pilot guy?

Im just saying hollwood seems to cast who ever the teenyboppers think is hot at the time to play what ever leading role i.e. Hugh jackman as wolverine, before that he was just a skinny wuss in chick flix.

thatiscrazy - 10/27/2009, 10:46 AM
They should just bring Mel Gibson back as an old Mad Max, and intruduce another character (similar to a young max) then take the "trilogy" off from there. Theres only one mad max.

I'm tired of reboots :( and I'm tired of hugh pretending to be a bad a$$
