GLASS Looks Set To Take In Between $60 And $70 Million Over The Course Of MLK Weekend

The latest box office statistics for M. Night Shyamalan's Glass are in, and the divisive director's trilogy capper looks set to do near-record business over the long Martin Luther King Jr. weekend...

Box office tracking indicates that M. Night Shyamalan's Glass should debut in the $60 million-$70 million range domestically, which would be a near-record MLK weekend bow behind Clint Eastwood's American Sniper ($107.2 million) in 2015.

Shyamalan's follow-up to both Unbreakable and Split received a generally mixed-negative response from critics, but with a budget of just $20 million, the superhero thriller should still turn a tidy profit for Universal - especially when you factor in its lack of competition.

This holiday weekend would usually see a few big releases hit theaters, but rival studios reportedly stayed away for fear of losing out to Glass, which boasts plenty of star power in the form of Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and James McAvoy.

If you're curious to know what I made of Glass you'll find my review HERE, and be sure to check back over the weekend for our spoiler breakdown.

I saw it at a sneak preview in Boston two nights ago. I really enjoyed it. I think people need to keep in mind that this isn't going to be a big, bombastic, huge action-piece movie; this isn't a Marvel or DC CBM. To understand the pacing of this movie, you really have to look to the previous two movies.

@MrFloZeke - I think the mixed critical reception has a lot to do with this. While a few of the reviews do point out legitimate complaints about Glass, a good majority of the critics seem to have went into it expecting a big, action packed superhero movie. If you’ve seen either Unbreakable or Split, you should definitely know that Glass was never going to be like the superhero films of today. I don’t know if it’s the way Glass has been marketed or that audiences have just grown accustomed to superhero films being a certain way.

I'll be catching it tonight. I've enjoyed all of Shyamalan's movies; even the would-be weaker ones (Haven't seen The Last Airbender or After Earth, and have no desire to). I know for sure I'm gonna like Glass.
