GODZILLA Producers Launch Lawsuit Against Legendary Pictures

Last week, it was reported that Legendary Pictures had sued producrs Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Doug Davison in an attempt to remove them from the studio's Godzilla reboot. The three then responded with an attempt to stop the film's production (which begins in March) with a restraining order. Now, according to Deadline, the producers launched their own lawsuit in the legal war. They filed a suit against Legendary Pictures today, with the complaint alleging breach of contract among other counts. This legal action requests a jury trial and unspecified damages, and also names fellow producer and Legendary President/CCO Jon Jashni as a defendant (despite Legendary CEO Thomas Tull not being mentioned). "By this action, Cross-Complainants seek a judicial declaration that the never-discussed arbitration provision in the unsigned draft agreement is not enforceable and that this dispute must be tried before a jury in the Los Angeles Superior Court. More importantly, Cross-Complainants seek substantial compensatory damages, in the millions of dollars, resulting from Legendary’s material breach of its agreement to pay them the fixed and contingent compensation to which they are contractually entitled. Cross-Complainants seek specific performance of Legendary’s agreement to accord them screen credit and allow them to participate in prequels, sequels, and remakes or, if such relief is unavailable, recovery of the substantial damages resulting from the loss of such credit and opportunities," says the lawsuit, which you can read in full by clicking HERE. Godzilla is currently in the casting phase, with Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson reportedly being the frontrunner for the lead role. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters), the film is set to hit theaters May 16th, 2014.

To my understanding, part of this lawsuit includes puting a cease and desist on production of the movie until this matter is resolved. I hope that isn't true, but if it is, we ain't seeing this movie any time soon.

Why can we all be friends? (I really wish I had a gif of Godzilla and King Kong dancing together to go with this.)
