The news that a couple of the producers of the Godzilla remake wasn't met with an awful lot of interest, especially after it was revealed that the likes of Henry Cavill and Scoot McNairy are being considered for the lead human role. Well, things have today taken a far more serious turn as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Legendary Pictures has sued Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Doug Davison over whether or not they are entitled to remain on the project. They have responded with an attempt to halt the production of the film with a temporary restraining order. You can read the complaint in full HERE, but the only real losers in this are us and director Gareth Edwards.

It wouldn't be the first time a dick waving contest between producers and the studio has ruined a movie.

That said, I think everyone writing off this movie as DOOOOOOMED is overreacting a bit. It could be that the involved producers were causing serious problems for the film that could wind up negatively impacting the finished product's quality.

We don't even have an announce plot synopsis yet. I'm going to wait before I join in the chanting of DOOOOOM!

DOOOOOOMMMM!!!!!!!

Temporary restraining order...it is just that, temporary. The studio will pay them some go-away money and things will be back on track. Halting production just means filming. They can continue working on other things.

Good. Who needs this film? You really think there is any way it can be different from the last one? Simplistic concepts make for simplistic films.

Who needs any film, Irondean?

I notice how people don't pull the "who needs wants to watch this stupid movie" card on James Bond films, or superhero movies, or any other long term series or niche sub genera. No, it's only monster/horror movies that apparently only deserve to get one film made and that's that.

I'd expect that kind of psuedo-intellectual film snobbery on other sites, but not on Comicbookmovies. Which is supposed to be full of comic book fans.

Yeah but it's a movie about a giant lizard that smashes buildings. How different can it be from the last one? It's not like Godzilla will have some sort of meaningful character arc, is it? He'll show up, everyone will freak out, we'll see a bunch of different people dealing with the situation from the US military to some douche kid and his squeeze, stuff will get destroyed, Godzilla will get destroyed and then people might learn a few cliche lessons in life.
Gareth Edwards, you're welcome.

At least there is a vast landscape of potential Bond stories. Plus, Daniel Craig has less scales. Wish I could say the same for Roger Moore.

What narrow minded, elitist bullshit. The same could be said for ANY movie in ANY genera.

Have you seen any of the movies? Godzilla films have covered a number of generas over the years, and the plots have varied greatly throughout the films. There's been a lot of repetition but the same could be said of any long running series. You mention of Godzilla not being able to have a character arc is pretty hilarious, considering a large part of the Showa Eiga's appeal for many fans is Godzilla's character arc as the films went on. Most notably in Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster.

And spare me the 'Godzilla being a character is stupid and unrealistic' argument, because for one thing that's just a circular argument. For another thing we're on a website devoted to film adaptations of comic book characters. Nobody here is allowed to bitch about realism. [frick]ing nobody.

Apparently, now the producers are standing in front of Legendary Studios while holding up a boombox that's playing "In your eyes" by Peter Gabriel.
