Variety's Jeff Sneider is reporting that the True Grit star is negotiating to become the female lead, Petra Arkanian, in Gavin Hood's Ender's Game.

The actress was nominated for best supporting actress for her performance as the feisty Mattie Ross in 2010's True Grit. The role of Petra Arkanian is mentor to Ender. She takes him under her wing and teaches him how to shoot. Her character in the beginning of the Orson Scott Card novel is aggressive and confident. But a tragic incident will leave her ego fractured and she'll have to learn to overcome her fears.

Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations to star as the female lead in OddLot Entertainment’s sci-fi ENDER'S GAME. Steinfeld is in talks to play Petra Arkanian, the only girl in Salamander Army who quickly becomes Ender’s ally and trusted right hand. - Variety's Jeff Sneider reports.

HUGO star Asa Butterfield is set to play the title character, a gifted young gamer skilled in strategy and logistics who’s recruited by the government to help battle an insect-like alien race. OddLot is in the process of casting the pic’s adult lead of Colonel Hyrum Graff, who trains the young male recruits at an elite military academy. Several thesps are in the mix, including sci-fi veteran Harrison Ford.


ENDER’S GAME will be released in the U.S. on March 15, 2013.

Well good! She is a fantastic young actress!

She is quite beautiful at 14! I have heard great things about her...I have heard she is such a nice person, and great to be on set with.

So, I am glad to see her get this role.

this is going to be one epic sci-fi movie. I loved the book, its portrayal of using children as tools of war, the brutal and harsh living in Battle School, which I cannot wait to see brought to film will be awesome, and the huge twist ending is one of the best endings, although I hope they leave it at just this one, Enders shadow was good but Enders Game was far more superior

Actually, the prefix "pedo" refers to prepubescence; Hailee Steinfeld is 14 and has already entered puberty, so the "Pedo" should be changed to "Ephebo".

Anyway, how old are these characters in the books?

Ender's Game? I didn't even know they were making that! I love the book. And I usually have a lot of trouble finding a book I like, unless it's a comic book lol. They BETTER do the movie right. And she's a good choice I guess. She really looks different from how she looked in True Grit if you know what I mean! (I'm only 16 so it's ok that I say she looks good lol.)

The movie will be called Ender's game but it will be a mix of Ender's game and Ender's shadow. Read Card's author notes or leasing to the audio books. He takes about it at the end of all of the books.
