James Cameron's Avatar Heading To Disney World!

Looking forward to seeing Marvel's many superheroes make their way to Disney World? Looks like you'll have to wait a little longer, as 20th Century Fox and James Cameron have struck a deal with Disney to bring the hit movie to the them park...

The New York Times have revealed that Avatar is heading to Disney World, with an official announcement expected later today. Below are some excerpts from their report, but what do you guys make of this? It certainly seems like a great fit for the theme park, but will this delay the long rumored debut of a Marvel themed section? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Robert A. Iger, chief executive of the Walt Disney Company, plans to announce on Tuesday morning that Disney has licensed the rights to the hit movie “Avatar” from 20th Century Fox for a theme park experience, according to two people briefed on the plan.

The “Avatar” experience – plans call for more than a single ride – will be built at Animal Kingdom, the newest of the four major theme parks that make up Disney World in Orlando, Fla., according to these people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because Disney did not authorize them to speak publicly.

James Cameron, the director of that science-fiction film, will collaborate with Disney on the attraction. “Avatar” sold $2.8 billion at the global box office and two sequels are in the works.

Hopefully both projects can happen. Avatar was awesome and the marvel heroes deserve something cool too.

Why does it say Avatar's going to Disney Land, and then talks about Orlando?

Oh fer [frick]'s sake. I'm so sick of giant smurfs and James Cameron. the man doesn't have an original idea in his head and too many lemmings are willing to give him their money.

Fail.

@kriswone- If you saw Dances with Wolves or The Last Samuri, just imagine them with 8 ft tall blue people and a serious enviromentalist slant.

This is bullstinky. Avatar is a Fox production. Why would Disney give one of their major competitors such continuos exposure? It's like McDonalds allowing Whoppers to be sold at their joint. I don't know- I doubt this source.

Hope there's gunna be a Marvel thing in Disneyland Paris, I'll never end up going to Florida.

But I dont really give a shit about Avatar...

@Grif he gets money. Lot's of it, I'd bet. And I'm guessing free rides for life at Disney Land. He'll be on 'It's a Small World' all day.

@dahamma because it was Pocahontas with overgrown Smurfs playing the native Americans, and the word 'Unobtanium' was thrown in there about 20 times. Unobtanium... I could make up a better name in my sleep.

This guy is a cash cow... a few billion dollars wasn't enough eh Mr. Cameron? Retire from making films PLEASE and go do something useful with all that dough instead of making shameless re-hashes of ancient films and blaming it on the fact yours was, "ten years in the making".

PUH-LEAAAZE!

Great, let's feed James Cameron's ego more. Seriously does anyone give a crap about Avatar 2 coming out in 3 years? It won't have being in the middle of the 3D fad to add to make every person being socially forced to go see it.

This wouldn't be the first non-Disney property that Disney for which Disney has built theme park attractions -- they've build rides based on Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Twilight Zone, MGM films.

What does Disney get out of it? Avatar was hugely popular, and there will be another Avatar film on the way, so attractions based on this property will be a big draw.

What does James Cameron get out of it? A substantial yearly licensing fee, I'm sure.

Why are we seeing this before a Marvel themed attraction? Bring on the Stark Expo, a Mr Fantastic Rollercoster, Hulk Smash Raceway, and Sushi by Wolverine.

Only idiots still use the “lemming” reference.

And FYI, you get to tell the same story over again when you do it better than the guys before you.

Avatar might have a familiar plot, but it was one of the best interpretations
