John Lithgow and Freida Pinto Cast in Rise of the Apes - Plus Freida Pinto Photo Gallery

Actor John Lithgow has been cast in the soon-to-start-shooting Rise of the Apes, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision column. Additionally, there seems to be confirmation about Freida Pinto's casting as well.

In the film, a reboot of the Planet of the Apes series (more specifically, film number four, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes), Lithgow will play a man whose alzheimer's results in his son (James Franco) trying to find a cure. To this end, he performs genetic experimentation on an ape named Caesar, which ultimately paves the way for humanity's downfall.

Freida Pinto and Don Cheadle have reportedly been signed as well. The latest information is that Freida will be playing a scientist as well, which means that she and Franco's character will be working together, and possibly romantically linked.

I know a lot of people are critical of this reboot, but I like the approach they're taking: name actors, but not allowing a superstar to be the focus. The casting is real solid and from what I'm hearing about the plot, it really does sound like a science-run-amok storyline; Caesar and the apes seeming to be a Frankenstein monster-like creation that takes their own destiny into their hands.

There is definitely something appealing about Deep Blue Sea. It's schlocky in so many ways, but there are some very cool moments in it.

And, hey, if the alzheimer's thing didn't work out so well using sharks, maybe it will be better using apes... Oh, wait a sec, it leads to the downfall of humanity. I'd better rethink that one.

James Franco is really going to demonstrate his acting chops to convince me he's a scientist.

The best thing about deep blue sea is that the girl dies and the black guy survives. The worst part is that song over the credits. "My hat is like a sharks fin"?!?!?? What the hel1?

Meh...I won't be watching any ape reboot, remake...whatever. I enjoyed the originals and will leave it at that. So tired of Hollywood going back to classics to try to make a buck.

No one can even come close to touching Pele! Not gay Maradona either. Pele never scored goals with his hand and he was the first to score a bicycle goal in a World Cup match. Messi is very skilled, but has not accomplished enough internationally to receive that sort of recognition. Maybe in time, but not as of yet.

lol, McLovin thats the thing, he is now at this moment ranked..meaning recognized..as the top player in the world, its not just one man's opinion. And Maradona is unquestionably one of the greatest players the world ha sever seen, bringing up the hand of God is irrelevant. Pele was amazing too, but Maradona scrape sit for me.

@ Ror - I respect your opinion as I do Anil's, But Pele won 3 World Championships and Maradona only won one. I've seen plenty of footage of Pele playing in the 60's and IMO, I've not seen Maradona top Pele's ability to dominate the game or score. Any way, APES DO RULE!!!!

Btw, thanks. I'm also glad that the Brits made it. If not for them, we would all not be enjoying these awesome games. Maybe the best team win.

@Juggernaut - I remake of soylent green could be okay. However, it would be cool if it could somehow be a secret remake with a new title. Then the whole reveal could have more punch.

Well I can see what you mean but for me I would have had a hard time laughing at that because well perosnally I believe that the state of the world is headed in that direction.

No I don't mean eating people. I mean overpopulation, which can lead to mass famine. There's dwindling natural resources and an environmental crisis in the world in the form of deforestation, and the oil spill.

IMO opinion the world is teetering ont he brink of being JUST LIKE freaking Soylent Green so naw. I don't find it funny.

If you mean funny as in being cheesy, well yeah of course I see what you mean. But I will take cheesy looking movie with a good story over cool looking with a bad story any day. I think a lot of people would agree that the plot and the story of Soylent Green was pretty cool.
