Gareth Edwards' Upcoming GODZILLA Sequel Gets A New Writer
As soon as he's finished working on 2016's planned Star Wars spin-off, Gareth Edwards will return to direct the sequel to Legendary's hit 2014 movie Godzilla.
Deadline confirms that Legendary Pictures has closed a deal with Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein to return to write the sequel. This isn't really a surprise after the success of the first instalment, and the studio have also tapped him to write King Kong prequel, Skull Island.
THOR's Tom Hiddleston will star in that movie with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing. Borenstein also wrote upcoming fantasy flick Seventh Son for Legendary and that will be released next year. Godzilla 2 (that's just the working title) is set to be released on June 8th, 2018.
Gareth Edwards directed Godzilla, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Inception), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Oscar winner Juliette Binoche (The English Patient, Cosmopolis), and Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), with Oscar nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck., The Bourne Legacy) and Bryan Cranston (Argo, TV's Breaking Bad). It hit DVD and Blu-ray on September 16th.
