It Sounds Like PACIFIC RIM 2 May Never Happen As It's Put On Indefinite Hold

Word has come out that Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim sequel hasn't just been put on hold and pushed back as was recently rumoured: it may now never happen at all!

According to a very interesting piece over at The Hollywood Reporter, there's some tension between Universal and Legendary which has led to the Pacific Rim sequel potentially being scrapped for good.

This isn't the first Guillermo del Toro film the two studios have clashed over, as Universal refused to pay for half of Crimson Peak earlier this year because they don't believe that the R-Rated horror movie will be able to regain its budget. You can't blame them for being cautious either. Pacific Rim grossed $411 million worldwide, but cost so much that a sequel was never a sure thing. If it wasn't for China, it would have been an outright flop, and Universal's lack of interest in the property means the following: "Sources say Legendary liked that the original performed exceptionally well in China, where the company is heavily invested, but for now the project — which had been ramping up to make a release date in August 2017 — has been halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all)."

So, things aren't looking good for the sequel at this point. Check out my review of Pacific Rim by clicking here
