John Goodman & Thomas Mann Join The Cast Of KONG: SKULL ISLAND; First Story Details Revealed

John Goodman has joined the already very impressive cast of Legendary Pictures' Skull island movie as a character named 'Randa'. We also have our first official breakdown of the plot.

According to Deadline, John Goodman will join Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Mitchell and John C. Reilly in Kong: Skull Island - which is apparently still not the movie's official title. Goodman will play Randa, "a government official who leads an expedition", in the Jordan Vogt-Roberts-directed flick, which is believed to be set some years after Peter Jackson's 2005 reboot.

We've had a few rumors here and there but nothing concrete about the plot of the film... until now. The site has also provided what appears to be the first synopsis.

"The story is about a man (Hiddleston) who travels to the mythical island after his brother is stranded there trying to retrieve the mythical serum Titan which is believed to be the cure for all illnesses and diseases. The man must lead a rescue team to save his brother while confronting the creatures that inhabit the island."

UPDATE: Variety reports that Me and Earl and the Dying Girl star Thomas Mann has also joined the cast as a member of the expedition that accompanies Hiddleston's character.

Kong: Skull Island is expected to begin production this fall, and is set to hit theaters on March 10, 2017.

It's great John Goodman will be in this movie. But l hope it doesn't hurt his chances to be Harvey Bullock in the DCEU.

"...in the Jordan Vogt-Roberts-directed flick, which is believed to be set some years after Peter Jackson's 2005 reboot."

@RorMachine That seems a tad misleading. It sort of makes it seem like this movie takes place in the same continuity as Jackson's movie, which I'm pretty sure isn't the case.

@BlackIceJoe

If anything,I could see Goodman appearing in this WB film increasing his chances of being Harvey
Bullock if he delivers another memorable performance as a supporting character.

Affleck seems to be pretty loyal to actors and writers who have done good work with him in the past.

Perhaps this serum "Titan" is what makes Kong so big--and what will make him big enough to fight Godzilla in the next film?

@capaware

Just what I was thinking.Perhaps MONARCH gets control of the Titan formula by the end of Skull
island and Kong is safely returned to/left on the island under human supervision.In the present day,
when military efforts to defeat Godzilla fail,somebody comes up with the idea of giving Kong an
injection of Titan which for a finite amount of time,grows the gorilla to Godzilla size,and provides
limited protection from atomic breath due to a injury regeneration factor like Wolverine or The Hulk.

Those changes would be very much in the spirit of what TOHO did with the character in 1962 in
granting Kong electrical powers and resistance to atomic breath.

Best thing about a super soldier like boost to Kong is that he could shrink back to "normal" size for any
additional Kong films so he could interact better with human characters.

Its supposed to be set some years after Peter Jacksons King Kong???
You realize that Kong died and was the only ape on the island right?
No one has confirmed anything about it being related to PJs King Kong and why would it!
This has to be a fresh story. Just use your own common sense - is the ghost of Kong going to haunt the island....
MileHighRonin
MileHighRonin - 9/25/2015, 6:55 PM
I am with Campea on this one, perhaps Monarch finds a way to shrink Godzilla.
MileHighRonin
MileHighRonin - 9/25/2015, 6:58 PM
@Monstalova We are also unsure if he was the only ape their, he was the only ape we saw but that doesn't mean he is the only one. He had to have parents to be born, perhaps the new ape is his father or mother, perhaps a sibling. We didn't see the entire island, therefore we don't know for sure if he was the only ape.
