SKULL ISLAND: First Trailer And Poster Sees King Kong Unleashed Alongside A Whole Host Of New Monsters

We'll return to Skull Island on Netflix next month, and the first trailer for this animated MonsterVerse spin-off puts the spotlight on King Kong, new Kaiju, and the humans who will be hunted by them...

We've been waiting a long time for this, but the first trailer for Netflix's Skull Island animated series has finally been released (via SFFGazette.com).

The streaming platform hasn't revealed much about the show, but in terms of confirmed cast members, Mae Whitman will play Annie, a woman who is rescued from a group of explorers that stumble across the treacherous Skull Island. Also lending their voices to the series are Darren Barnett as Mike, Benjamin Bratt as Cap, and Betty Gilpin as Irene.

The official synopsis describes Skull Island as a "thrilling animated adventure series, follow[ing] shipwrecked characters desperate to escape the most dangerous place on Earth - a mysterious island home to prehistoric monsters, including the greatest Titan of them all, Kong."

Brian Duffield (Underwater) executive produces and writes the series, while Jacob Robinson also executive produces.

Both the trailer and poster showcase the sort of threats these survivors will encounter when they visit Kong's home, but the King himself is understandably put front and centre.

Skull Island is all part of Netflix's plan to expand the MonsterVerse, with a live-action Apple TV+ series on the way along with Godzilla vs. Kong sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

We're definitely intrigued to see what gaps this particular story fills in and how it informs the rest of the stories being told. The animation style is similar to the DC Animated Universe movies and definitely appears to do these monsters justice!

Skull Island premieres on Netflix on June 22.

I’m in. I imagine already this will be a better Kong series than Kong: The Animated Series (in spite of the talent involved with that earlier production).
