Mr Guillermo del Toro, how you continue to fascinate us. I realise how late I am to the party, but I think now is the right time for me to post my review of del Toro’s latest film, Pacific Rim. So hit the jump to check out my spoiler filled review of this summers’ most badass flick!

After reading everyone’s thoughts and theories on Pacific Rim I felt it was my time to post a review for the film, now I am not a huge del Toro fan, I mean the two Hellboy flicks are cool and all, but this film for me was what I would remember him for… so how was it? Awesome, but let me explain little more. Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman and many more, so did you really think it was going to suck? I mean be completely honest with yourself.

Pacific Rim is set in 2020, which not only embraces the film but also enhances the film. Having this film set seven years into our future was perfect, not only from a storytelling point of view but from a viewers point of view. I’m going to try and keep spoilers on the down low because, believe it or not, some people haven’t seen this movie yet. Now I recently read JoshWilding’s review of Pacific Rim, and while I respect his opinion, I think it’s wrong. This film is by far the best film of the summer and one of the best films of the year. The visual effects are beyond incredible and the acting, oh boy the acting is great.

As I said earlier, the acting is great. I think people are being very harsh on the film’s star, Charlie Hunnam. People have been comparing this movie to Star Wars, and Star Wars had some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen, but it’s still cool. I don’t see people giving Mark Hamill any stick, so why give poor Hunnam stick? Some of the films best scenes are sparked by Idris Elba’s character. Mr Elba seems to always add something unique to a situation; his acting chops are that of a future star (if he isn’t one already). Just going to ask DC/WB’s to cast this man as Martian Manhunter already, because he’s perfect. One actor who I thought really stole the show was my boy, Charlie Day. I love this guy, I mean he is just awesome and in this movie he is so funny and awesome. His character is basically the audience, so how would we react if we were in the middle of a Kaiju attack? We’d run around screaming like a little girl, don’t lie to yourself, you would. I feel like I’ve given this film way to much acclaim, like seriously have I said anything bad yet? I’ll say something now. The 3D isn’t that great, well for me at least, I hate 3D. If you love 3D, you’ll love this movie in 3D, if you hate it? You’ll want to kill yourself five minutes in.

For the first time in a really long time, I genuinely cared about the characters in this movie. I think this movie is the movie that can bring everyone together, it doesn’t matter what your name is, or what colour skin you have, what is important is that we can all come together and fight the greater cause. Think of all the poor children in Africa, who die of hunger and disease every single day, we as human beings have the power to do great things and this film shows how great we can be, if we just worked together. When the credits role at the end of Pacific Rim you (the audience) feel like you have just saved Earth, you feel like you helped out. And at the end of the day, what better feeling is there than the feeling of accomplishment?
