Looks like we might see a Ghostbusters type movie before we see Ghostbusters 3

Shocktillyoudrop.com has the story, also thanks to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ian Fried has sold Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures on his story Spectral.

The Hollywood Reporter says it's a "dark" and "gritty" take on the Ghostbusters formula.

In Spectral, a special ops force - trained in hunting the supernatural - go up against ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.

Fried got some Hollywood attention over the summer when his Florence Nightingale and Jack the Ripper script, Gaslight, made the rounds.

But which one will work for straight overtime? That is who I will call. Can't say it's an original idea but at least we may get to see the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man again.

Dammit, Mal, I got all excited then. I guess the concept is fair game for anyoe, though. There have been a lot of versions of the concept, way before the one we know and love and most of those were even called Ghostbusters or ghostbreakers or some such thing. Oh well, it could be good, but this guy just sounds a little unoriginal. Whilst also being intriguingly original. Florence Nightingale meets Jack the Ripper? Was this guy a producer before he was a writer?

if they dont start i ghost busters 3 soon, it may never happen, which would be a great travesty. Bill Murray needs to stop being a goofy ass weird dick head about the hole situation and make another great movie!
