[Sandra] Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky [George Clooney] in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

STARRING:

Sandra Bullock as Ryan Stone
George Clooney as Matt Kowalsky

one of my favorites of the year. They better win all the technical achievements.

One of the most overrated movies of the year (Man of Steel being the other). This movie was good, but not great. Not by any means. Oscar worthy? For what, exactly? Nothing special stands out about this movie for me. Wasn't terribly moving, wasn't terribly memorable.

@G. Just the technicalities alone deserves am Oscar. The themes and metaphors in this movie on top of that was executed beautifully with a great performance from Sandra Bullock.

If you didn't see this in a good imax theater, in 3D, then you really missed out. It was a completely other, otherworldly experience! Jeez I just got goosebumps from seeing the end again and remembering the experience!

Hope they win best cinematography, visual effects and actress, cuz they sure as hell deserve those, at the very least

I saw it and hated it. Not so much for the visuals as they were very good, but for the story. I'll assume since your giving it a review you saw it but just in case
*****SPOILERS******
Sandra Bullocks character never would have been in space in the first place not with her Psych issues.

Astronauts work as a team and a very efficient, they do not cruise around in a jetpack or bungie jump from the shuttle.

The George Clooney parts were at least funny

The Sandra bullock parts felt like I was watching a documentary with Sandra hyper ventilating throughout.

And yes I saw it in IMAX(AMC version not the 2 story screen type) and 3-D

I don't think they have an Oscar for "technicalities"
